POSITION: Pharmacy Technician Float

The Impact of this Role:
The Pharmacy Technician Float supports the safe and efficient operation of Specialty
Pharmacy, Pharmacy & Distribution (P&D), and Infusion Therapy services. By assisting
pharmacists and care teams with prescription processing, documentation, inventory, and
coordination of patient care, this role helps ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely service
delivery by providing pharmacy technician coverage wherever it is most needed. Through
collaboration with patients, providers, nursing staff, and internal teams, the Pharmacy
Technician Float supports consistent workflows and contributes to positive patient outcomes
and a high standard of care.
What You’ll be Doing:
The responsibilities of the pharmacy technician float include, but are not limited to:
• Providing professional and courteous customer service through in-person, telephone, and
written communication
• Working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist and appropriate leadership
while complying with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations
• Supporting patient intake, prescription processing, and maintenance of patient records,
including demographic, clinical, and insurance information within pharmacy systems
• Assisting with prescription order processing, refills, claims, and related documentation,
and escalating clinical or prescription-related questions to a pharmacist
• Supporting insurance and billing-related activities, including benefits review, coordination
of coverage, authorizations, and billing resolution as needed
• Maintaining general knowledge of medications, inventory practices, and pharmacy
workflows across service areas
• Collaborating with internal teams, providers, and nursing staff to address patient needs
and support timely coordination of care
• Supporting infusion-related activities, including scheduling support, documentation,
patient communication, and administrative coverage as needed results.
• Supporting pharmacy operations, reporting, and facility procedures, including
maintaining a safe, organized, and compliant work environment
Who You’ll be Working With:
The Float Pharmacy Technician works with pharmacists, patients, prescribers, nursing services,
payers, vendors, and clinical and administrative staff to support Specialty Pharmacy, Pharmacy
& Distribution (P&D), and Infusion services across multiple settings. This position does not
hold any supervisory responsibilities.
Skills and Experience You’ll Bring to the Table:
• Minimum of one year of experience working as a pharmacy technician; additional
healthcare or pharmacy experience preferred
• Experience supporting pharmacy operations, including prescription processing,
inventory management, and medication handling
• Proficiency with computer systems, including pharmacy management systems
and electronic medical record (EMR) system
• Working knowledge of healthcare compliance requirements and applicable
regulations
• Ability to follow detailed technical procedures and documentation requirements

Work environment
The Float Pharmacy Technician works in a fast-paced environment with multiple activities occurring
simultaneously and may support office, pharmacy, distribution, or infusion settings as needed. This
role requires the ability to sit for extended periods while performing computer-based work, as well
as stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the day depending on assigned duties. The technician
must be able to work both independently and collaboratively while prioritizing workload and
