Job Description
$3,000.00 Sign-On Bonus and 8% Shift Differential
Reports to Pharmacy Technician Supervisor. Under the clinical supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and legal and regulatory requirements, compounds sterile products and prepares unit-of-use pharmaceuticals for dispensing and ensures delivery of products and pharmaceutical supplies to patient care areas. Maintains pharmacy working inventory.

Automated Dispensing Cabinet (ADC) Flow Cell:
- Pulls medications and controlled substances from ADC reports for established routes following standard work.
- Pulls controlled substances from the Controlled Substance machine (CSM) following standard work.
- Fills ADC, entering appropriate expiration dates and removing expired medications.
- Checks return bin per standard work.
- Checks for discrepancies at each ADC, restocks following standard of work; reports unresolvable discrepancies to the ADC Optimization Technician or Management daily.
- Double checks all Compare Report and resolves any discrepancies discovered immediately following standard of work.
- Fills and labels all new orders with proper priority ("stat" in 30 minutes, "now" in 60 minutes, and routine).
- Stocks and refills ADC or adds meds to Patient Specific Bins (PSB).
- Processes PSB discharge report, discharged PSB medications and discontinued PSB medications.
- Picks up and processes credits (including refrigerated items) from all units daily.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
Sterile Compounding Fill Cell:
- Compounds all admixtures, piggybacks, TPNs and other specialty solutions according to batch times following standard work following par levels, under pharmacist's supervision, using aseptic technique, and following all USP 797 guidelines.
- Uses Computer Software (Pharmacy Keeper) to log, document, and track sterile compounding.
- Fulfills daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning requirements per USP 797 and 800 guidelines.
- Checks for IVs that can be recycled and discards all outdated IV's; maintains a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
- Stocks clean room daily with solutions, syringes, and medications, always maintaining established par levels. Places supply orders as needed.
- Follows the daily production pars to prepare all compounded/batched items.
- Prepare new orders in a timely manner by applying the double check system.
- Ensures completion of all online records/logs (hood cleaning, temperature logs, biologicals, syringe and epidural compounding, hood pressure etc.).
Barcoding/Repackaging/Inventory Management:
- Repackages medications utilizing appropriate packaging material (MediDose, Shrink wrap, oral liquids, PakEdge) daily.
- Utilizes the kanban card standard work to maintain appropriate par levels of repackaged medications.
- Applies Zebra barcodes on medications when deemed necessary.
- Completes the daily and monthly functions of cleaning/maintenance of the packaging equipment.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and efficient work environment for the packaging and barcoding area.
- Unpacks, sorts, and scans- in order while checking that manufacturer barcodes are readable with bedside barcode scanning system, Carousel system, and Virtual Inventory system. Gives all non-scannable inventory items to Pharmacy Clinical Analyst Pharmacist/Technician.
- Puts away the order, rotating stock, and verifying quantities.
- Assists in keeping inventory at minimally optimal levels and reorders when par levels dictate. Alerts the order person when quantities are low or out of stock.
Pharmacy Support Function:
- Completes standard work for monthly outdated inspections within the pharmacy, as assigned and maintains a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.
- Exchanges code boxes and travel boxes and logs their location. Restocks codes trays, travel boxes, and epidural trays and charges as needed when returned to Pharmacy.
- Answers telephone courteously with appropriate identification, and routing inquiries. Assist nursing with ADC questions and tracking down medications.
- Processes medication requests in a timely manner.
- Pulls medications from the Carousel to restock ADC and fills new orders.
- Delivers medications to nursing units.
- Process returned medications and credit as needed.
- Orients new technicians thoroughly, cordially and with respect.
- Attends meetings, reads minutes, checks email daily, responds to all Teams messages, attends daily department huddle, and stays current with all communications.

Associate complies with the following organizational requirements:
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies, and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.
Education and Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a high school diploma (or equivalent) and successful completion of a pharmacy technician training program approved by the State of Indiana. Current licensure through the State of Indiana Board of Pharmacy is required. Recognition as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) is required. A minimum of one year’s experience working as a pharmacy technician is preferred. Active licensure and certification must be maintained throughout employment.
