About This Position

NPower Houston is seeking a Senior Career Placement Manager (CPM) who is passionate about connecting students to meaningful careers in tech. This role is ideal for a strategic relationship-builder and mentor who can inspire, lead, and deliver results.

As the Senior CPM, you will lead a team of Career Placement Managers and collaborate closely with employers, community partners, and program staff to ensure students transition successfully into apprenticeships, internships, or direct hire roles. You will help shape and implement career readiness programming, create individualized job plans, and mentor students to build their soft skills and professional confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Career Development & Mentorship

  • Develop individualized job search plans with students to ensure a structured, strategic approach to placement.
  • Meet regularly with students to assess progress, offer guidance, and provide mentorship.
  • Support students in developing critical soft skills such as communication, adaptability, professionalism, and interviewing.
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure students are fully prepared for career opportunities in tech.

Team Leadership & Program Strategy

  • Lead, coach, and support a team of Career Placement Managers in achieving student placement and employment goals.
  • Monitor performance metrics and provide feedback, support, and development opportunities to your team.
  • Collaborate with national and local teams to help shape professional development offerings and ensure curriculum aligns with employer expectations and market trends.

Employer Engagement & Partnership Building

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with employer partners across the Houston area and nationally.
  • Identify new internships, apprenticeship, and direct-hire opportunities for NPower students.
  • Attend and host partner meetings and community events to raise awareness and promote collaboration.
  • Act as a liaison between NPower students and employer partners to ensure a seamless transition from training to employment.

Program Design & Continuous Improvement

  • Help develop and deliver professional development programming and workshops tailored to current market needs.
  • Analyze placement data and trends to inform strategies and share insights with leadership.
  • Ensure systems and processes are in place to track student outcomes and support long-term career growth.

Data & Reporting

  • Enter and maintain accurate student and placement data in internal systems to ensure data integrity.
  • Track key performance indicators and outcomes to support team and organizational goals.
  • Generate reports and contribute to data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in workforce development, career services, recruiting, employer relations, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and meet performance goals.
  • Strong understanding of the tech industry and current job market trends preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong public speaking, communication, and facilitation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
  • Passion for education and empowering economically disadvantaged communities.

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid role based in Houston, TX.
  • Regular in-person meetings with employer partners and attendance at local community events is required.
  • Some travel may be required for networking, partnership development, or regional team meetings.
