Becker Mining Systems – Longwall Solutions Shift: 1st Shift Job Summary
The Industrial Painter is responsible for the surface preparation and application of protective and cosmetic coatings on underground mining roof support and longwall equipment. This role plays a critical part in protecting heavy mining components from corrosion, abrasion, and environmental exposure while ensuring finished equipment meets appearance and quality standards. The position requires experience working with large steel components in a heavy industrial environment and strict adherence to safety, environmental, and quality procedures. Job Duties and Responsibilities Prepare metal surfaces through sanding, grinding, blasting, degreasing, cleaning, and masking Apply primers, intermediate coats, and topcoats using HVLP and air-assisted spray systems Mix coatings per technical data sheets and job requirements Measure and control coating thickness and finish quality Inspect completed work for defects such as runs, sags, dry spray, or incomplete coverage Perform touch-up painting and rework as required Maintain paint equipment, spray booths, ventilation systems, and work areas Follow all safety, environmental, PPE, and hazardous material handling procedures Qualifications and Requirements Prior experience painting industrial or heavy equipment Strong understanding of surface preparation techniques and coating systems Experience using HVLP or comparable industrial spray equipment Knowledge of paint safety, ventilation, and PPE requirements Ability to work with large, heavy components in a shop environment Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Work Environment & Physical Requirements Heavy industrial paint shop environment within a mining equipment repair facility, involving surface preparation and application of industrial coatings on large steel components. Work is performed around spray equipment, ventilation systems, and powered tools, with exposure to industrial noise, paint fumes, solvents, and chemicals. Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, reach, and work in various physical positions while performing surface preparation and painting activities.
