Position Summary

The Pricing Analyst provides the market data, bid strategy, and pricing automation that help Propak’s Customer Sales team win freight at healthy margins. Working closely with Customer Sales and the bid team, they publish lane-level rate guidance, recommend margin floors and targets for leadership approval, manage the rules and performance of automated bidding tools, and lead the analytical side of customer RFPs. The Pricing Analyst advises on margin but does not own it: margin floors, below-floor exceptions, and final RFP pricing are approved by sales leadership. Success in this role means faster, more consistent, and more accurate pricing across spot and contract freight.

Essential Functions

  • Publish and maintain lane-level rate guidance by lane and equipment type for the team, using market data, historical load data, and current carrier costs.
  • Monitor quotes and lanes against approved margin floors; flag below-floor quotes and route them through the margin dispute escalation path. This role does not approve margin exceptions.
  • Build, configure, and maintain automated bidding (bot bidding) rules, including eligible lanes and customers, rate sources used, and which loads are routed to a person for manual review.
  • Review automated bidding win rate and margin performance weekly and recommend rule and rate adjustments to sales leadership.
  • Maintain customer portal and TMS connections used for automated bidding, and resolve loads that fall outside bidding rules.
  • Partner with the bid team on customer bids/RFPs, including lane analysis, market rate benchmarking, and recommendations on where to bid aggressively and where to hold price.
  • Recommend RFP margins and submit final bid pricing to sales leadership for approval.
  • Conduct post-award reviews, including won/lost lane analysis, whether awarded volume actually ships, and performance against committed rates.
  • Track and report pricing KPIs, including quote win rate, rate accuracy, RFP award rate, award volume compliance, and automated bidding win rate and margin.
  • Monitor market conditions and lane trends, and provide subject-matter expertise on pricing, rate volatility, and pricing technology to the sales team.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (4-year college or technical school) in Business, Finance, Supply Chain, or related field: Preferred
  • Experience: 2–4 years of freight brokerage pricing, carrier or customer sales, or transportation analytics experience; RFP experience preferred
  • Computer Skills: Microsoft Excel (advanced: pivot tables, lookups, formulas); TMS and market rate tools (e.g., DAT, SONAR); Power BI or SQL a plus
  • Certifications & Licenses: None required

Key Competencies

  • Analytical Skills: Ability to use data, reasoning, and market information to reach sound pricing conclusions.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure accuracy in rates, bid files, bidding rules, and reports.
  • Business Acumen: Ability to understand cost, margin, and market drivers and how pricing decisions affect business results.
  • Collaboration: Ability to work cooperatively with Customer Sales, Carrier Sales, and leadership toward shared goals.
  • Communication, Written/Oral: Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word and in writing.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively with work-related problems.
  • Technical Aptitude: Ability to learn and use pricing tools, automation, and data systems quickly and accurately.
  • Time Management: Ability to meet bid deadlines and deliver pricing guidance on schedule.
