What You’ll Do
As a Systems Applications Specialist, you will report to the VP Patient Access. Responsibilities include providing training and support to team members and physicians on BMG computer applications/systems. This includes project planning, analysis, implementation, troubleshooting, conducting quality assurance and maintaining computer system security. Performs general consulting and serves as a liaison with BMG departments/physician offices as required. Provides educational classes to team members on commercial (contracted & non-contracted) insurance updates and Medicare and Medicaid billing changes. Assists in performing computer system upgrades and conversions and providing feedback to the Director of Finance to improve the revenue cycle.
Systems Applications Specialist Job Responsibilities:
- Train and support physicians and staff on EHR and practice management systems, including Allscripts ProPM and ProEHR.
- Develop and deliver training programs, user guides, and educational materials for new and existing team members.
- Configure, maintain, and optimize system workflows, reports, and applications to improve operational efficiency.
- Partner with physicians to customize EHR tools, enhance documentation quality, and support coding and billing accuracy.
- Serve as a liaison between clinical, operational, and IT teams to identify needs, resolve issues, and implement solutions.
- Conduct system testing, troubleshooting, and support software upgrades, conversions, and implementations.
- Provide education on revenue cycle processes, insurance updates, Medicare, Medicaid, and billing compliance requirements.
- Monitor projects, communicate progress to leadership, and recommend process improvements.
- Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean and Kaizen activities.
- Maintain compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, training, and certification standards while delivering exceptional customer service.
What You Bring
As a Systems Applications Specialist, this position requires strong technical skills and knowledge to effectively use and support a variety of software and hardware systems, as well as the ability to perform systems analysis activities. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of networking concepts, servers, databases, reporting tools, and programming languages. Within two years of employment, the individual must obtain and maintain Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification. Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to make effective presentations and interact professionally with management, team members, physicians, and vendor representatives. The position also demands effective training skills, including the ability to analyze, design, organize, develop, communicate, and evaluate training materials. Candidates must possess a thorough understanding of medical billing procedures, office operations, third-party insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, workers’ compensation, and CPT and ICD coding. Advanced knowledge of the Allscripts ProPM and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems is required, along with proficiency in operating computers, terminals, printers, and audiovisual equipment. Additionally, the individual must demonstrate knowledge of and the ability to communicate BMG policies and procedures effectively to team members.
Required Qualifications
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are normally acquired through the successful completion of a bachelor's degree in business administration, Healthcare Administration, or another appropriate field or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of three years progressively responsible medical practice experience is preferred.
- Preference will be given to candidates with training and experience with those software and hardware products regularly used by BMG.
- Experience with third party insurances, Medicare, Medicaid, CPT and ICD-9-CM coding and physician office practices is strongly desired.
