Job Description
The Senior Health and Wellness Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and oversight of comprehensive programs that promote the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of older adults. This role provides leadership in delivering health education, coordinating fitness and wellness activities, and connecting seniors with appropriate community resources and support services. The Coordinator serves as a key liaison between seniors, healthcare providers, and community organizations to ensure access to essential health services. Additionally, the position supports the coordination of emergency medical assistance and facilitates timely wellness interventions to address the evolving needs of the senior population. This position is supervised by the Senior Sports, Fitness, and Wellness Supervisor at the Rockville Senior Center and is a 20-hour, part-time position with benefits.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate health and wellness programs that support the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of seniors.
- Coordinate and lead wellness activities, including fitness classes, health education workshops, and preventative health initiatives.
- Assess the health and wellness needs of program participants and recommend appropriate resources, services, and interventions.
- Serve as a liaison between seniors, healthcare providers, social service agencies, and community organizations to facilitate access to supportive services.
- Provide information and referrals related to health care, nutrition, physical activity, mental health, and community-based wellness resources.
- Monitor participant engagement and program outcomes, maintaining accurate records and reports to evaluate program effectiveness.
- Assist seniors in accessing emergency medical support when necessary and ensure appropriate follow-up and wellness interventions.
- Promote a safe and supportive environment for all program participants by following established health, safety, and emergency procedures.
- Plan and coordinate special events, health screenings, and wellness campaigns designed to enhance quality of life for seniors.
- Collaborate with internal staff and external partners to strengthen program offerings and expand available health and wellness resources.
- Maintain compliance with organizational policies, program guidelines, and applicable health and safety regulations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support the overall mission and operations of the senior wellness program.
- This position is required to work one day during the Home Town Holiday event (Memorial Day weekend) and one additional City-sponsored special event each calendar year.
- High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree in health sciences, social work, or a related field is preferred.
- Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in health services, social services, or wellness program coordination.
- Certification as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or equivalent is preferred.
- Knowledge of available health and wellness resources for seniors, including fitness programs and mental health services.
- Ability to design and lead fitness programs tailored to seniors, focusing on mobility, strength, and overall health.
- Strong supportive listening and communication skills; bilingual abilities are a plus.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with seniors, families, and community partners
