Kitchen Manager – The Nest & Central Reform Congregation
Position Summary
The Kitchen Manager is a shared role between The Nest Early Childhood Center and Central Reform Congregation. This position is responsible for maintaining an organized, well-stocked, and clean kitchen that meets the needs of both communities. The Kitchen Manager prepares daily preschool lunches, supports food service needs for synagogue events, coordinates kitchen usage for volunteers and programming and ensures all kitchen operations follow health and safety standards. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working behind the scenes, takes pride in keeping things running smoothly, and values care, community, and collaboration.
Core Responsibilities
At The Nest
- Maintain inventory of all food, snacks, and paper goods for the lunch and snack program
- Prepare and serve lunch daily, adhering to food safety guidelines and allergy protocols
- Ensure that preschool-specific items are clean, organized, and readily available
- Collaborate with the Center Director to manage food ordering and restocking
At Central Reform Congregation
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and overall organization
- Track and restock kitchen supplies for synagogue events and community programs
- Partner with staff to support food preparation and cleanup for holidays and events
- Support and coordinate with members on approved projects
- Prepare and set up weekly Oneg food
- Report equipment issues and ensure compliance with safety procedures
Qualifications
- Experience in kitchen operations or food service strongly preferred
- Knowledge of allergy-safe food handling and nutrition for young children a plus
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to lift 25–40 lbs and work on your feet for extended periods
- ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain) a bonus
