About This Position
Our summer Design Intern is a motivated, detail-oriented team player that is looking to gain experience in the construction industry. This intern assists in the preparation of detailed drawings of architectural designs and plans for buildings and structures according to customer input and/or specifications by an architect.
Essential Job Functions:
- Transform initial rough product designs into working documents using computer-aided design (AutoCAD, Revit)
- Produce shop drawings up to the department’s standards and procedures.
- Review shop drawings and assist in furnishings, fixtures, accessories and selection for functionality and aesthetics.
- Gather and prepare informational data sheets for components, materials and equipment outlined in the project scope.
- Assist sales by reviewing product options against project specifications.
- Help Sales and PM in selecting vendor product types/quantities using architectural drawings and specifications.
- Prepare project submittal drawings and documents by project architectural drawings and specifications.
- Work with the PM to format submittals to best accommodate project delivery and other requirements.
- Review vendor drawings for production and work with the project manager and vendor representative to correct any issues during their order process.
Qualifications:
- To successfully perform this job the employee should possess a working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and/or other design software.
- Knowledge of Revit family creation, some knowledge with model coordination (Navisworks, BIM 360) preferred.
- The employee must have the ability to foster positive team relationships with fellow employees; learn the specification and technical details of the products we distribute as well as those of our competition.
- Willingness to learn and absorb training throughout internship.
- Use professionalism and ethical judgment in all areas of the position.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The employee must be computer literate and proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite products, Bluebeam. Such qualifications would normally be found in an individual enrolled in a design program from an accredited college or university.
