Our partner is looking for a Manager, Engineering – Frontend based in Canada.

This role is a key leadership opportunity within a fast-growing engineering organization focused on building scalable, high-performance frontend systems that power complex workflows. You will lead a frontend platform team responsible for shared UI infrastructure, design systems, and reporting frameworks that support a large and evolving product ecosystem. Acting as both a technical leader and people manager, you will shape engineering strategy, guide architectural decisions, and contribute hands-on when needed. The role blends leadership, product collaboration, and deep frontend expertise, ensuring high standards for performance, developer experience, and system scalability. You will work closely with product and design teams to define roadmaps and deliver impactful features that improve usability and efficiency across the platform. This is a high-ownership position ideal for someone who thrives in a player-coach environment and enjoys building both teams and systems at scale.

Accountabilities
  • Lead and mentor a frontend engineering team responsible for shared UI systems, design components, and frontend infrastructure.
  • Own the architecture, evolution, and reliability of frontend platforms including design systems, data grids, and reporting frameworks.
  • Contribute hands-on to development work, including code reviews, pair programming, and critical technical problem-solving.
  • Define and drive frontend engineering standards for performance, scalability, maintainability, and developer experience.
  • Collaborate closely with product, design, and backend engineering teams to define and execute the product roadmap.
  • Lead technical design reviews and ensure alignment on architectural decisions across teams.
  • Build and grow the engineering team through hiring, onboarding, and ongoing coaching and development.
  • Identify and advocate for engineering initiatives that improve platform quality and long-term scalability.
  • Ensure smooth delivery of frontend projects using Agile/Scrum methodologies.
  • Partner cross-functionally to translate product requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Continuously improve engineering workflows, tooling, and best practices across the organization.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of engineering management experience with a strong background as a hands-on software engineer.
  • Proven ability to operate in a player-coach role, balancing leadership responsibilities with technical contribution.
  • Strong expertise in modern frontend development and component-based architecture.
  • Experience with frontend frameworks and tools such as StimulusJS, Hotwire, or similar technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience building or maintaining shared component libraries or design systems.
  • Familiarity with data-heavy applications, reporting systems, or scalable frontend data visualization patterns.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including performance optimization and system design.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with cross-functional product teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on coaching, team development, and fostering high-performing engineering cultures.
  • Ability to operate in fast-paced, evolving product environments with high ownership expectations.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary ranging from $174,000 – $237,100 CAD, depending on location and experience.
  • Unlimited paid time off and flexible remote work across Canada.
  • Comprehensive health and dental benefits.
  • Home office setup allowance to support remote work efficiency.
  • RRSP matching program to support long-term financial planning.
  • Learning and development budget to support professional growth.
  • Internet and mobile reimbursement allowance.
  • Opportunity to work on large-scale, impactful engineering systems in a high-growth environment.
  • Inclusive, collaborative workplace culture focused on innovation and creativity.
  • Strong emphasis on engineering autonomy, ownership, and technical excellence.
