This is a high-impact, fully remote opportunity for an experienced financial systems professional specializing in Workday Financials and Grants Management.
You will help optimize financial and sponsored research processes within a complex, grant-funded environment.
The role combines functional leadership, systems optimization, reporting, analytics, and continuous process improvement.
You will partner closely with Finance, Accounting, Research Administration, Grant and Contract Services, and technical teams.

It is well suited to a collaborative problem-solver who enjoys translating complex operational needs into practical technology solutions.

Accountabilities:
  • Serve as a functional lead for Workday Financials and Workday Grants Management, advising Finance, Accounting, Grant and Contract Services, and Research Administration stakeholders.
  • Design, configure, optimize, and govern financial and grants-related processes in alignment with Workday best practices, institutional policies, sponsor requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Support the sponsored research lifecycle, including award setup, budgeting, amendments, cost sharing, facilities and administrative costs, billing, revenue recognition, and closeout.
  • Support core financial processes across General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Procurement, Assets, Cash Management, Financial Planning and Analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Lead requirements gathering, business process mapping, gap analysis, and future-state design for financial and grants workflows.
  • Translate complex business requirements into clear functional specifications, system configurations, and scalable solutions.
  • Coordinate system testing, user acceptance testing, issue resolution, implementations, enhancements, and optimization initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain Workday Financials and Grants reports, including standard, custom, and composite reports, dashboards, metrics, and ad hoc analyses.
  • Establish reporting standards, data governance practices, and analytics priorities that support financial management, research oversight, audit readiness, and leadership decision-making.
  • Partner with technical teams to support integrations between Workday and other institutional systems.
  • Provide ongoing functional support, training, documentation, user guides, and process materials to the broader Workday user community.
  • Identify opportunities to improve system usability, productivity, reporting efficiency, data accessibility, and overall user experience.
  • Support internal and external audits, compliance reviews, and sponsor inquiries while maintaining strong data integrity and controls.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; an advanced degree such as an MBA is a plus.
  • At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience supporting financial systems.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience with Workday Financial Management, including implementation, configuration, administration, and ongoing support.
  • Demonstrated experience with Workday Grants Management and sponsored research processes, preferably within higher education, research, or another grant-funded environment.
  • Strong experience developing Workday Financials and Grants reports, including custom and composite reporting.
  • Proven ability to gather requirements, conduct gap analyses, map business processes, and design effective system solutions.
  • Strong understanding of financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, procurement, accounts payable and receivable, cash management, and FP&A.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with strong attention to data quality, accuracy, and integrity.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across Finance, Accounting, Research Administration, IT, and other stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to work effectively within complex, decentralized organizations and manage competing priorities independently.
  • Workday Financial Management and/or Workday Grants certifications are preferred.
Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary range of $128,560–$168,003, with actual compensation determined by skills, experience, qualifications, internal equity, and market conditions.
  • Fully remote work opportunity within the United States.
  • Comprehensive benefits package for eligible full-time employees.
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Life insurance and disability benefits.
  • Retirement and savings benefits.
  • Paid time off and additional employee benefits.
  • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful financial and sponsored research operations within a mission-driven environment.
  • Professional growth through exposure to enterprise financial systems, Workday optimization, reporting, analytics, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Equal employment opportunities and a commitment to an inclusive workplace.
