Motivated by the love of Jesus, we work to end trafficking and to empower survivors to reclaim the lives they were created to live through healing their whole person. In addition to other programs, North Star operates two residential programs in Lancaster and Berks counties, and a separate social enterprise, Florissant Collective.
Summary:
The Design & Communications Coordinator supports North Star Initiative’s mission by designing compelling print and digital materials, developing engaging written content, managing digital communication channels, and implementing integrated marketing campaigns that advance organizational goals. The Coordinator ensures all communications are timely, consistent with North Star’s brand, and aligned with the organization’s mission and values. The Design & Communications Coordinator reports directly to the Development and Marketing Director. This is a part-time, hourly position (25-30 hours/week).
Design & Communications Coordinator must be:
- Willing to sign the North Star Initiative Statement of Faith (Code of Beliefs)
- Willing to sign the Kingdom Living policy
- A current and active member and/or regular attendee of a local church
- Able to fully support the North Star Initiative's core values and ministry philosophy
- Committed to healthy communication and proactive conflict management.
Essential Functions:
- Execute marketing and communications initiatives that support North Star Initiative’s mission, fundraising, initiatives, and events.
- Create compelling written, graphic, and video content for digital and print platforms, including social media, email marketing, websites, and publications.
- Manage North Star’s digital communication channels, ensuring content is current, engaging, and aligned with brand standards.
- Design and produce marketing materials, event collateral, presentations, and other branded assets.
- Implement marketing campaigns and communication plans across multiple channels.
- Coordinate promotion, content creation, and storytelling for fundraising and community engagement events.
- Develop email marketing campaigns and assist with website updates and optimization.
- Monitor performance metrics and provide recommendations to improve engagement and effectiveness.
- Collaborate with staff, partners, vendors, and volunteers to support organizational marketing and communication needs.
- Manage marketing and communications projects from concept through completion, ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely delivery.
- Maintain an organized library of marketing, photography, and video assets.
- Maintain required documentation and comply with organizational policies and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
- Attend required meetings--including monthly staff meetings, trainings, and Development and Marketing initiatives—and demonstrate understanding of the content.
- Complete a minimum of 20 hours of ongoing training every year.
- Additional responsibilities as determined by program needs and/or assigned by the Development and Marketing Director or Chief Executive Officer.
Education and Experience:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, communications, marketing, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
- One to three years of experience in marketing, communications, social media management, graphic design, or a related field.
- Experience creating content and managing digital communication channels for an organization or brand.
- Experience developing written, graphic, and video content for multiple audiences and platforms.
- Required: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (or comparable design tools). Preferred: Experience with database management.
- Experience with email marketing platforms, website content management systems, social media management tools, and marketing analytics.
- Ability to interpret performance metrics and apply insights to improve engagement and effectiveness.
Other Requirements:
- Must be over 21 years of age.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends in support of events and organizational activities.

- Understanding of trauma-informed practices and ethical storytelling, or willingness to learn.
- Demonstrated initiative, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to engage respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
