Job Description

Senior Cloud Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Cloud Engineer based in the United States.

This role offers the opportunity to engineer next-generation cloud-native data analytics and production platforms supporting a major public-sector data environment.
You will help transform legacy on-premises systems into scalable, secure, and highly automated AWS architectures.
The position combines cloud migration, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, DevOps, and CI/CD automation across complex enterprise environments.
You will work closely with customers, architects, developers, and operations teams to assess existing systems and develop effective modernization strategies.
Your work will directly contribute to reliable data production pipelines, dissemination platforms, and web-based analytics applications.
The role provides significant technical ownership, from architecture and migration planning through implementation, optimization, and operational support.
It is an excellent opportunity for a senior cloud professional who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges and mentoring others while working on mission-critical technology.

Accountabilities
  • Conduct cloud readiness assessments and develop migration strategies, roadmaps, and implementation plans for transitioning applications and infrastructure from on-premises environments to AWS.
  • Analyze existing application architectures, dependencies, and technical constraints to recommend cloud-native modernization approaches that improve scalability, availability, performance, security, and operational efficiency.
  • Design, build, deploy, and optimize AWS cloud solutions using services such as EKS, EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, and CloudWatch.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and/or CloudFormation to automate AWS infrastructure provisioning, configuration, deployment, and orchestration.
  • Design, deploy, and operate containerized applications using Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm Charts across both stateful and stateless workloads.
  • Manage Kubernetes-based deployments, including Helm chart development, configuration, scaling, upgrades, troubleshooting, and ongoing operational support.
  • Implement and support externalized platform technologies such as Cassandra, OpenSearch, Hazelcast, Apache Kafka, and Amazon MSK.
  • Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines that automate application builds, testing, infrastructure deployment, and production releases.
  • Develop DevOps automation and deployment scripts using Bash, Python, Groovy, or comparable scripting technologies.
  • Support large-scale cloud-native data processing, ETL, streaming, and data production workloads using AWS and related technologies.
  • Support database architecture, implementation, administration, capacity planning, and operations for highly scalable enterprise data platforms, including multi-terabyte environments.
  • Develop migration solutions that preserve data integrity, high availability, and minimal downtime during transitions from on-premises environments to AWS.
  • Collaborate directly with customers and engineering teams to gather requirements, understand application dependencies, identify technical risks, and develop tailored migration and modernization solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance on AWS architecture, Kubernetes, containerization, DevOps automation, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud-native best practices.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize cloud infrastructure, containerized applications, CI/CD pipelines, databases, and supporting platform services.
  • Review security scans, accessibility assessments, and performance testing results, developing and supporting remediation plans where necessary.
  • Stay current with AWS, Kubernetes, DevOps, and cloud-native technologies and recommend improvements to existing architectures and operational practices.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to team members while promoting adherence to established cloud and architectural standards.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in cloud engineering, cloud architecture, DevOps, or a related field, including significant hands-on experience with AWS.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting AWS cloud migrations, including application architecture analysis, dependency assessment, modernization strategies, and migration from on-premises environments.
  • 5+ years of DevOps and CI/CD experience, including automation and scripting with Bash, Python, Groovy, or similar technologies.
  • 3+ years of experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm Charts, including deployment and management of stateful and stateless applications.
  • 3+ years of experience implementing and managing externalized platform technologies such as Cassandra, OpenSearch, Hazelcast, Apache Kafka, or Amazon MSK.
  • 3+ years of Infrastructure as Code experience using Terraform and/or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Hands-on experience using Terraform to provision and manage AWS services including EKS, RDS, EC2, IAM, S3, and CloudWatch.
  • Strong understanding of AWS architecture, networking, security, scalability, availability, monitoring, and cost optimization.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing cloud-native applications and infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of application migration approaches including rehosting, replatforming, refactoring, and broader modernization strategies.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and supporting automated CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities across cloud infrastructure, Kubernetes, containers, applications, and deployment environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work directly with customers and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance.
  • Experience supporting large-scale data analytics, ETL, streaming, or data production environments is preferred.
