Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Surgical First Assistant to join our growing surgical team. The Surgical First Assistant works directly with surgeons during operative procedures to provide technical assistance and support optimal patient outcomes. This position requires excellent knowledge of surgical anatomy, aseptic technique, and the ability to function efficiently in a fast-paced operating room environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist surgeons during surgical procedures.
• Provide appropriate exposure of the operative site through tissue handling, retracting, and positioning.
• Assist with patient positioning, skin preparation, and sterile draping.
• Maintains a sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
• Utilize surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies appropriately.
• Assist with hemostasis and control of blood loss.
• Perform wound closure and suturing as directed by the surgeon.
• Apply dressings and assist with post-procedure activities.
• Anticipate surgeon needs and ensure efficient workflow in the operating room.
• Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and surgical technologists.
• Follow all infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory standards.
• Participates in quality improvement and performance initiatives as needed.

Qualifications Required

• Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA), Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA), or equivalent certification.
• Current BLS certification.
• Knowledge of sterile technique and surgical procedures.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and assist during lengthy surgical procedure
