Position located at St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago, Indiana

Job Description:

Responds to faxed, mailed, walk-in and telephone requests and determines allowable release of protected health information according to HIPAA guidelines, state law and hospital policies and procedures.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• • Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a medical office setting or Health Information Management coursework. Previous Health Information Management in a hospital environment experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and troubleshooting computer problems. Experience with document scanners and electronic medical programs preferred.
  • Medical terminology experience or coursework.
  • Knowledge of office procedures/equipment.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines, federal and state laws covering disclosure of information.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Must have strong problem-solving, communication and organizational skills; Detail oriented.
