Job Description
The Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia supports a vibrant alliance of synagogues, community volunteers and representatives from Jewish community organizations all over Greater Philadelphia through its Federation in Your Neighborhood (FYN) initiative. FYN serves the areas of Bucks County, Upper Montgomery County, Center City, Chester County, Delaware County, Lower Merion, Northeast, and Old York Road Corridor. FYN works within geographic areas to build close relationships among congregations and Jewish agencies and Jewish Federation.
Our team uses relational engagement, program grants, and the resources of the Jewish Federation and each individual local community to:
- Create a pipeline of communication and leadership development from a grassroots level to the work of the Jewish Federation.
- Serve individuals and families both connected to Jewish institutions and those who are underserved or not engaged.
- Strengthen relationships among institutions, congregations, and their professional and lay leadership within the community and with Jewish Federation.
Each FYN supports a vibrant slate of communal gatherings including holiday programming, social action/mitzvah work, and philanthropic opportunities to its constituents. This position sits within the Community Development Department of the Jewish Federation. This person reports to the Director of Community Engagement and Governance and works cross functionally within the Jewish Federation.
The Community Engagement Manager oversees a portfolio of FYN congregations and Jewish agencies in Center City, Old York Road Corridor and Northeast. Responsibilities include:
Portfolio of Neighborhood Congregations and Agencies
- Relational Engagement: The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for building close relationships between Jewish Federation and congregations and Jewish agencies within their neighborhood(s). They serve as a liaison, connecting Jewish Federations services with communal needs. These services include program grants, convenings, volunteer leadership development, Life and Legacy endowment program, EITC, security, and marketing.
- Leadership Development. The Community Engagement Manager will help identify leadership needs within their neighborhood(s) and assist with recruiting current and future leaders for participation in leadership development programs.
- Donor Cultivation. The Community Engagement Manager will maintain a pipeline of prospective future donors with a focus on community members and organizational leaders within congregations and agencies who are not yet involved with Jewish Federation. Collaborate and communicate with the Jewish Federation’s fundraising department, to ensure follow-up on prospective donor pipeline.
- Federation Presence. The Community Engagement Manager will ensure a Jewish Federation presence in their assigned neighborhood(s) through participating in and coordinating Jewish Federation professional and/or lay leader participation in key congregational and agency events.
- Communication. The Community Engagement Manager will work closely with the Jewish Federation marketing team to maintain a steady stream of communication from Jewish Federation to the neighborhood(s).
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask in an environment that requires managing multiple activities and priorities
- Assist with other neighborhoods as needed.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to navigate varying opinions and interests
- Proven ability to take a project from concept through completion
- Familiarity with Jewish traditions with the ability to lead Jewish events and connect effectively within the Jewish community
- Basic knowledge of Philadelphia Jewish Community preferred
- Ability to work evenings, occasional Shabbats, holidays, and Sunday events, as needed
- Access to a reliable means of transportation to allow for meetings within the assigned neighborhood as well as attendance at relevant and required events
- At least 2 years of previous experience in an engagement role, Jewish education or outreach role in the Jewish community.
- Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office and social media applications required
