Job Description

Senior Associate, Business Intelligence Engineering

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Associate, Business Intelligence Engineering based in the United States.

The Senior Associate, Business Intelligence Engineering will own the development of trusted reporting and analytics solutions that support decision-making across a diverse, fast-growing business.
This role combines advanced Power BI expertise with strong data modeling, engineering, and analytical capabilities.
You will design scalable semantic models, data pipelines, and reporting solutions across Finance, Operations, People, Marketing, Construction, and Investments.
Working within a modern Azure and Databricks data environment, you will solve complex data challenges at their source rather than relying on report-level workarounds.
The position offers significant autonomy, requiring you to translate business requirements into sustainable technical solutions while balancing accuracy, performance, scalability, and business value.
You will collaborate closely with Product Management, Data and Analytics leadership, engineers, and business stakeholders.
This is a senior individual contributor opportunity for someone who wants to make a meaningful impact on the data foundation powering enterprise-wide decisions.

Accountabilities
  • Own the end-to-end technical delivery of production Power BI reports and dashboards, ensuring usability, performance, accessibility, governance, and long-term maintainability.
  • Design, maintain, and govern Power BI semantic models, including star schemas, reusable DAX measures, calculation groups, incremental refresh, row-level security, and certification standards.
  • Partner with Product Management to validate technical feasibility, identify data gaps, clarify requirements, estimate effort, and recommend appropriate implementation tradeoffs.
  • Determine the upstream data structures, modeling approaches, integrations, and pipeline logic required to support reporting requirements and sustainable analytics solutions.
  • Translate approved dashboard designs and business requirements into intuitive Power BI experiences, including visualizations, navigation, drill-throughs, filtering, slicers, parameters, and tooltips.
  • Develop and maintain reliable data ingestion and transformation pipelines using Spark SQL, PySpark, Delta Live Tables, Databricks Workflows, and related technologies.
  • Onboard new source systems by evaluating data structures, defining ingestion patterns, mapping business entities, establishing refresh schedules, and coordinating data validation.
  • Implement complex business logic and calculations in DAX while documenting definitions, assumptions, dependencies, limitations, and downstream impacts.
  • Investigate and resolve data quality, reconciliation, integrity, and performance issues at the appropriate source layer to prevent recurring problems.
  • Validate reporting outputs against systems of record, reconcile key metrics, document exceptions, and escalate unresolved discrepancies before production release.
  • Optimize Power BI reports, semantic models, and data pipelines through query tuning, aggregation strategies, storage mode selection, partitioning, model optimization, and refresh analysis.
  • Manage the Power BI development lifecycle across testing, deployment, production support, workspace and app management, refresh monitoring, access controls, and release readiness.
  • Independently manage multiple concurrent initiatives while communicating priorities, risks, dependencies, tradeoffs, and recommendations to technical and business stakeholders.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, reusable development patterns, engineering standards, and knowledge-sharing initiatives as the analytics environment evolves.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and occasionally travel as business needs require.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience developing production business intelligence and analytics solutions, with significant ownership of Power BI semantic models, data modeling, performance optimization, deployment, and production support.
  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI, DAX, and Power Query (M), including filter context, context transition, time intelligence, measure branching, calculation groups, row-level security, and performance tuning.
  • Strong dimensional modeling expertise, including star schemas, grain selection, conformed dimensions, slowly changing dimensions, fact tables, relationship strategies, and model refactoring.
  • Advanced SQL capabilities, including window functions, common table expressions, complex joins, query optimization, reconciliation logic, and work with large and complex datasets.
  • Working proficiency in PySpark or Python for transformation, automation, pipeline development, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with modern cloud data or lakehouse platforms, ideally Databricks, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog, including governed data access and production data management.
  • Experience building and troubleshooting orchestrated data pipelines using Databricks Workflows, Delta Live Tables, Azure Data Factory, or equivalent technologies.
  • Ability to translate business outcomes, designs, mockups, and specifications into scalable technical solutions while proactively identifying missing data, ambiguous logic, modeling gaps, and dependencies.
  • Strong independent judgment, prioritization, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance accuracy, maintainability, scalability, and business impact.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy, particularly for financial, operational, executive, or compliance-sensitive reporting.
  • Experience with Databricks, Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, Delta Live Tables, Microsoft Fabric, or comparable modern analytics technologies is highly valued.
  • Experience with student housing, build-to-rent, multifamily, real estate, PropTech, or vertically integrated property operations is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with platforms such as Entrata, Yardi, RealPage, Workday, or Procore, as well as revenue management, pricing, forecasting, and real estate analytics, is a plus.
  • Experience working in Agile environments alongside Product Management, including Azure DevOps, sprint planning, and backlog refinement, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of data quality testing frameworks and pipeline observability practices is beneficial.
Benefits
  • Base salary range of USD 90,000–115,000 per year.
  • Competitive compensation with potential eligibility for additional bonuses, stipends, commissions, or other incentives depending on the role and performance.
  • Flexible paid time off to support personal needs, rest, and important life milestones.
  • 14+ paid holidays, including a birthday holiday.
  • Paid parental leave beginning after 90 days of employment.
  • Paid volunteer time to support community involvement.
  • Comprehensive health plan options beginning within at least 30 days of employment.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company matching and a Roth account option.
  • Employee Assistance Program providing access to confidential support services.
  • Monthly phone reimbursement.
  • Wellness allowance and additional wellbeing perks, including a meditation app subscription.
  • Professional development opportunities and a collaborative environment with opportunities to contribute ideas and perspectives.
  • Monthly workshop weeks designed to encourage collaboration and reduce unnecessary meetings.
  • A culture focused on belonging, continuous improvement, recognition, and employee growth.
