Job Description

Director, Marketing Technology & Platform Lead

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Marketing Technology & Platform Lead based in United States.

This is a senior marketing technology leadership role responsible for shaping and scaling the commercial customer experience platform across HCP and patient engagement channels. You will own the martech strategy, platform roadmap, architecture, governance, and delivery model across a complex digital ecosystem. The role sits at the intersection of marketing, technology, data, analytics, and customer experience, with significant influence over long-term platform decisions. You will lead cross-functional teams and external technology partners while ensuring reliable, compliant, and scalable execution. A major focus will be optimizing Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Salesforce Data Cloud, integrations, personalization, automation, and omnichannel capabilities. You will also establish strong data, consent, security, and delivery standards that support evolving commercial needs. This is an opportunity to shape enterprise-scale digital capabilities while driving measurable improvements in customer engagement and commercial performance.

Accountabilities
  • Own and execute the marketing technology strategy and roadmap across Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Salesforce Data Cloud, analytics architecture, website tracking, marketing data, and related platforms, including platform selection, enhancement, replacement, and retirement decisions.
  • Define and manage the Customer Experience Platform roadmap, enabling scalable omnichannel journeys, personalization, automation, segmentation, deliverability, and next-best-action capabilities across current and future product launches.
  • Lead build-versus-buy assessments and develop clear, commercially sound platform recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Manage the Customer Experience Platform development team and oversee scope, statements of work, backlogs, sprint cadence, capacity planning, delivery timelines, and priorities across launch and established brands.
  • Establish and enforce development standards, quality assurance processes, release controls, documentation requirements, and governance practices to ensure high-quality, compliant, and timely deployments.
  • Oversee outsourced development partners and vendors, managing performance, commercial relationships, scope, escalations, renewals, capacity, and delivery quality while minimizing technical debt and vendor dependency.
  • Own integration architecture connecting CRM, customer experience platforms, websites, paid media, search, social channels, and commercial data warehouses in collaboration with IT and Commercial Analytics.
  • Establish a trusted data foundation across HCP and patient audiences to support accurate measurement, analytics, segmentation, targeting, and customer engagement.
  • Partner with analytics and data teams to enable advanced segmentation, personalization, targeting, and next-best-action capabilities across execution platforms.
  • Own platform governance covering environments, access controls, naming conventions, tagging taxonomies, consent and preference management, and release management.
  • Define and monitor platform KPIs, including deliverability, uptime, deployment speed, data quality, capacity utilization, and operational performance.
  • Enable new channels, dynamic content capabilities, and other emerging technologies so brand and commercial operations teams can adopt them effectively at scale.
  • Act as the commercial counterpart to IT for platform prioritization, architecture decisions, integrations, and technology investments.
  • Partner with brand and omnichannel leaders to ensure platform capabilities effectively support customer journeys across brands and therapeutic areas.
  • Represent the organization with technology vendors, agencies, industry partners, and other external stakeholders while promoting strong platform standards and continuous improvement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, information systems, computer science, or a related field, with a master’s degree or equivalent advanced qualification preferred; equivalent practical experience may also be considered.
  • Typically 15+ years of experience in marketing technology, marketing operations, digital platforms, or related roles, or 12+ years with a master’s degree.
  • At least 3 years of ownership experience with a marketing automation platform and deep hands-on expertise with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, including Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Email/Mobile Studio, Contact Builder, and data extensions.
  • At least 3 years of experience within life sciences or pharmaceutical environments, ideally supporting HCP and/or patient-focused marketing.
  • Proven experience owning a marketing technology stack and roadmap, including platform selection, implementation, integration, optimization, and vendor management.
  • Strong experience managing outsourced or agency development teams, with responsibility for scope, quality, standards, delivery, and accountability rather than day-to-day coding.
  • Strong understanding of consent and preference management, email and SMS compliance, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, privacy requirements, and related regulatory considerations.
  • Experience integrating martech platforms with CRM systems and/or data warehouses, with a strong understanding of data architecture, data flows, data quality, and integration patterns.
  • Hands-on Salesforce configuration and administration experience, particularly across Salesforce Marketing Cloud capabilities.
  • Working knowledge of email and SMS deliverability, domain and IP reputation, authentication protocols such as SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, and related platform considerations.
  • Strong ability to operate between commercial and technical teams, influence senior stakeholders, evaluate complex trade-offs, and drive strategic decisions in ambiguous environments.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear commercial priorities and actionable recommendations.
  • Strong strategic thinking, judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to balance immediate business needs against longer-term platform scalability.
  • Preferred experience with Veeva CRM, SQL, customer data platforms, tag management, web/CMS platforms, and pharmaceutical customer-level engagement data.
  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Salesforce Data Cloud, or other relevant certifications are advantageous.
  • Experience supporting product launches, particularly the transition from specialty to broader or mass-market indications, is preferred.
  • Experience supporting both HCP and patient/consumer engagement, including their distinct data, privacy, and consent requirements, is highly valued.
  • Prior agency or consulting experience focused on martech implementation, platform delivery, or omnichannel enablement is a plus.
Benefits
  • Competitive annual base salary of $200,000–$215,000.
  • Excellent and comprehensive benefits package.
  • Opportunity to lead strategic marketing technology and customer experience initiatives with significant organizational visibility.
  • Leadership responsibility across global, cross-functional teams and external technology partners.
  • Opportunity to shape AI-enabled, data-driven, and omnichannel customer engagement capabilities.
  • Exposure to complex commercial technology, data, analytics, and digital transformation initiatives.
  • Work location in Carlsbad, California, with the position also open to remote candidates.
  • Opportunity to influence platform architecture, governance, vendor strategy, and long-term digital capabilities.
  • Supportive environment focused on innovation, professional development, collaboration, and meaningful impact.
