Director, Payer Partnerships

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Payer Partnerships based in United States.

This is a senior commercial leadership role focused on expanding access to innovative, value-based behavioral healthcare.
You will own the full sales cycle for new payer partnerships while transforming existing relationships toward outcomes-based and risk-sharing models.
The role combines strategic business development, complex contract negotiation, financial analysis, and healthcare market expertise.
You will engage directly with senior leaders at health plans and build compelling, data-driven value propositions around clinical and financial outcomes.
Your work will help expand care access across new markets while supporting sustainable business growth.
You will also influence product, pricing, clinical program design, and partnership strategy through market insights.
This is a high-autonomy opportunity for an experienced healthcare sales leader who wants measurable impact in a fast-moving environment.

Accountabilities:

You will lead payer growth initiatives from prospecting through contracting and partnership handoff, while helping shape the organization's broader value-based care strategy.

  • Own the end-to-end sales cycle for new payer partnerships, from initial outreach and discovery through negotiation, contracting, and execution.
  • Lead strategic renegotiations with existing fee-for-service partners to transition them toward value-based care, risk-sharing, and performance-based models.
  • Serve as the primary negotiator for contract terms, reimbursement rates, performance metrics, and other commercial conditions.
  • Develop compelling, data-driven value propositions tailored to the population needs and strategic priorities of individual health plans.
  • Manage the complete contracting lifecycle, including discovery, redlining, execution, and transition to Partner Success teams.
  • Build and maintain a strong payer prospect pipeline while using CRM tools to forecast revenue and track key sales metrics.
  • Research regional payer markets, competitive positioning, regulatory developments, and emerging value-based care opportunities.
  • Identify and prioritize high-value targets across Medicaid Managed Care Organizations, Medicare Advantage plans, and commercial health plans.
  • Share market intelligence with internal teams to inform product development, pricing, and clinical program design.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Partner Success to support smooth implementation and strong contract performance after signing.
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, payer summits, and networking events as a knowledgeable voice in value-based behavioral healthcare.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate brings substantial healthcare commercial experience, strong payer relationships, and a demonstrated ability to close sophisticated value-based agreements while influencing senior stakeholders.

  • 5–7+ years of progressive experience in healthcare sales, payer contracting, network development, managed care, or a related field.
  • Proven track record negotiating and closing complex value-based care, shared savings, or pay-for-performance agreements with health plans.
  • Deep understanding of alternative payment models, population health strategies, and the operating models of Medicaid, Medicare Advantage, and commercial payers.
  • Strong negotiation, financial, and analytical capabilities, including the ability to build and interpret complex pricing and ROI models.
  • Executive presence and confidence engaging with C-suite and senior decision-makers at major health plans.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate clinical outcomes into compelling financial and business narratives.
  • Strong strategic thinking, integrity, professionalism, and ownership.
  • Self-starter mindset with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Experience selling to or negotiating with payers in behavioral health, substance use disorder, or digital health is a strong advantage.
  • Established relationships with senior contacts at regional or national health plans are highly valued.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards related to value-based care and telehealth is a plus.
  • Candidates with lived experience and/or training as a peer recovery specialist are encouraged to apply.

Benefits:

  • Target on-target earnings of $205,000–$235,000, with additional performance-based upside.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, vision, and short-term disability coverage.
  • Mental health support through insurance coverage, Talkspace, and an Employee Assistance Program.
  • 4 weeks of vacation accrued per calendar year, increasing to 5 weeks after 2 years of employment.
  • Accrued sick leave at 1 hour for every 30 hours paid.
  • 9 paid holidays per year.
  • 12 weeks of 100% paid parental leave for birth or adoption after 6 months of employment.
  • 401(k) retirement savings eligibility.
  • Fully remote, full-time position with a standard Monday–Friday schedule.
  • Hardware provided to support remote work.
  • Access to a riverfront headquarters in Portland, Oregon for employees who wish to use the office.
  • Dedicated private workspace with a lockable door and high-speed internet required for employees handling sensitive information.
  • Opportunity to contribute to meaningful work focused on expanding access to behavioral healthcare and improving patient outcomes.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer; visa sponsorship or transfer is not available.
