Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Director of Resident Learning & Resources

Reports to: Director of Resident Learning & Resources

Status: Full-time

Classification: Exempt

Job Location: Sites across the organization, travel to sites required.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday

Salary Range: $70,000 - $80,000

Objective: The Assistant Director of Resident Learning and Resources will play a vital role in overseeing and coordinating developmental services for both adults and children. This leadership position focuses on delivering comprehensive career development, educational support, and skill-building initiatives designed to promote economic self-sufficiency and improve the long-term stability of families.

Key responsibilities will include managing and mentoring program staff to ensure high-quality service delivery, setting measurable goals aligned with organizational objectives, and fostering a collaborative and high-performance work culture. Additionally, the Assistant Director will work closely with community partners to create sustainable pathways to learning, employment and community involvement, ultimately enhancing access to resources needed for success among all program participants.

Position Type:  This is a full-time position with a variable schedule based on the needs of clients and employers.  This may involve flexible hours. Lantern staff may be asked to change the work schedule and hours depending on the operational needs of the site and the agency.   

Essential Functions:

  • Assist the Director in the daily management of the Resident Learning and Resources program, ensuring alignment with the overall mission of LCS.
  • Supervise a team of Adult Development Specialists and Family Support Specialists, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for staff, offering constructive feedback, setting clear performance goals, and supporting professional growth.
  • Provide ongoing supervision and support to program staff, ensuring high-quality service delivery to both adults and children.
  • Coordinate staff training on best practices in employment coaching, educational support, trauma-informed care, and child development.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment through regular supervision, team meetings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee the provision of career development services for adult residents, including job search assistance, resume writing, interview coaching, and job placement support.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local employers, vocational training providers, community organizations and workforce development organizations to expand employment and volunteer opportunities for residents.
  • Collaborate with case managers and other service providers to ensure holistic support for adult residents, addressing transportation, preparedness, and financial stability needs.
  • Contribute to new initiatives aimed at increasing educational and employment opportunities for residents, including workshops, training programs, and community partnerships.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the learning and development program, making recommendations for improvements based on data, feedback, and evolving community needs.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as local schools, workforce development agencies, and nonprofit organizations, to strengthen and expand services.
  • Provide direct support to residents as needed, offering guidance on overcoming barriers to employment, education, and family challenges.
  • Act as a point of escalation for complex cases, working with staff to identify solutions and provide additional resources.
  • Oversee the collection of data related to employment outcomes, educational achievements, and program participation, ensuring accurate record-keeping and reporting.
  • Analyze program data to assess progress, identify trends, and inform strategic decisions.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports to the Director, program directors, funders, and stakeholders regarding program impact, success stories, and areas for improvement.
  • Represent the program at community meetings, job fairs, and networking events to increase awareness of services and build partnerships that benefit residents.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, employers, schools, and community organizations to ensure residents have access to diverse opportunities and resources.

Required Education and Experience:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Human Services, Education, Business, or a related field (required). Master’s degree in a relevant field (preferred).
  • At least 5 years of experience in workforce development, educational support, or social services, with a minimum of 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience working with individuals and families in supportive housing, homelessness services, or similar settings.
  • Strong knowledge of career development practices, educational systems, and community resources for low-income and underserved populations.
  • Experience in program management, including budgeting, staff supervision, and outcome measurement.
  • Familiarity with local resources and community organizations serving low-income populations. 

Work Environment:  This job operates in a supportive housing site and works with a population who experiences mental illness, addiction, disability, HIV, and other chronic illnesses.  

Physical Demands:   While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, climb stairs and/ or kneel.
