About This Position
OBJECTIVE AND POSITION SUMMARY
The Employee Relations Specialist role is responsible for supporting and assisting the Employee Relations Manager in reviewing sensitive complaints, conducting and communicating with employees a fair and impartial investigation into alleged misconduct in designated business units across multiple states. The Employee Relations Specialist is a neutral fact finder that assists and conducts investigations in a thoughtful, thorough and objective manner. At the conclusion of an investigation, the Employee Relations Specialist will review with the Employee Relations manager, update the internal investigations/case management system Ethics Suite as deemed appropriate, and assist or participate in additional communication for critical parties involved and/or leadership throughout the organization.
SPECIALIZATIONS
The Employee Relations Specialist maintains an adequate level of business literacy to include but is not limited to the business unit’s culture and its primary business. The role uses a wide degree of ingenuity, adaptability, flexibility, and knowledge to meet the challenges faced on a daily basis. Experience with employee relations, conflict management, change leadership, employee coaching/mentorship and project management are essential to successfully complete the primary functions of this role.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Supports complex, sensitive, and multi-faceted workplace investigations involving Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws, civil rights complaints, and agency policy violations, such as discrimination, harassment, workplace bullying and retaliation.

Interviews and witnesses interviews pertaining to complainant(s), witnesses, and subject(s), as well as identifying and collecting relevant documentation.

Document interviews, process steps, and other investigative findings in accordance with CPLC’s investigative process. Assists entering reported matters into Ethics Suite.

Collaborates with the Compliance and Risk Department, Employee Culture Team, Corporate Legal Department, HR Operations, and other stakeholder departments to complete investigations.

Helps to develop investigative training for managers and supervisors, including collaborating with Learning and Development to identify learning modules to assist managers on disciplinary issues.

Liaises with business units and the Employee Culture Team to convey andy and all HR related concerns resulting from investigations.

Conducts research and analysis in partnership with Legal upon request to provide insight into environmental trends as it relates to internal and external EEO complaints.

Utilizes critical thinking and the ability to analyze large amounts of information to interpret laws and apply them to various situations.

Provides critical analysis and interpretation of information received during investigations.

Familiarity with federal, state and local laws, as well as court decisions and trends regarding EEO-related discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.

Maintains confidential record-keeping systems of information obtained from investigations.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
Education /Background:

The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree in human resources, Criminology, Organizational Behavior, or a related area. The candidate will have minimally 1-2 years of experience resolving employee relations and conflict management issues, and mediation. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may meet the qualifications for this position.

Candidate will have a thorough understanding of Federal and State Employment Law required for states and/or region they support. Exhibits the ability to learn, navigate and apply laws quickly to other areas upon growth. PC proficiency with various software systems including Office 3655, HRIS, and proficiency with ADP Workforce preferred.

Sound judgement, a commitment to compliance and confidentiality, superior written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills and attention to detail are essential functions of the Employee Relations Specialist position. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred. Travel 25-35% may be required.
