Preventive Maintenance Technician

Summary:

The Preventive Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on manufacturing equipment and facility systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This position supports equipment reliability initiatives by identifying potential issues before failure occurs, maintaining accurate maintenance records, and collaborating with production and maintenance teams to minimize downtime.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on equipment, machinery, and facility systems according to maintenance plans and manufacturer specifications.
  • Inspect mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems for wear, damage, and potential failures.
  • Lubricate, adjust, clean, and replace components to maintain optimal equipment performance.
  • Follow preventive maintenance schedules to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Conduct routine equipment inspections and condition monitoring activities.
  • Identify early indicators of equipment deterioration, malfunction, or failure.
  • Utilize diagnostic tools, meters, gauges, and testing equipment to evaluate equipment performance.
  • Document inspection findings and recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Perform minor repairs identified during preventive maintenance activities.
  • Replace worn or defective components before failure occurs.
  • Coordinate with maintenance, engineering, or reliability teams regarding major repairs and equipment concerns.
  • Assist with emergency and breakdown maintenance activities when required.
  • Accurately record maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs in maintenance logs and CMMS systems.
  • Maintain equipment history records and asset documentation.
  • Report recurring equipment issues and reliability trends to supervisors and maintenance leadership.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements, and PPE standards.
  • Comply with OSHA, environmental, and company safety regulations.
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, equipment hazards, and potential safety concerns.
  • Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain tools, test equipment, and maintenance supplies in proper working conditions.
  • Assist with spare parts inventory management and replenishment activities.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and care of tools, parts, and materials.
  • Support calibration and inspection programs for maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Work closely with production, operations, engineering, and maintenance personnel to coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Communicate equipment status, maintenance needs, and operational risks effectively.
  • Recommend improvements to preventive maintenance procedures, schedules, and reliability programs.
  • Support Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in training operators and junior technicians on basic maintenance tasks and equipment care.

Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or production environment preferred.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial equipment preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience using maintenance management software (CMMS).
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, technical drawings, and maintenance procedures.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic tools, testing equipment, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with maintenance documentation systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and reach throughout the work shift.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally lift up to 75 pounds with assistance when necessary.
  • Ability to work in elevated positions, confined spaces, and around moving machinery.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.

Work Environment:

  • Manufacturing and industrial production environment.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical equipment, noise, vibration, heat, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and safety footwear.
  • May require overtime, weekend work, or emergency call-in support as needed.
