About This Position

The Role
The Science Camp Office Manager plays a vital role in the day-to-day operations and efficiency of summer camp at Liberty Science Center. Key responsibilities include:

  1. Primary Point of Contact: Serve as the main point of contact for camp families via phone and email; also communicate changes in campers’ schedule and other key information to our camp staff.

  2. Administration: Manage registrations, camper files, etc

  3. Logistics & Inventory: Tracking office supplies, camp equipment, and managing the camp store.

  4. Customer Service: Deliver excellent customer service .

  5. Camper Support: Assist with the supervision and engagement of campers.

Reporting to the Director of Out-of-School Time Programs, the Office Manager works closely with all LSC Science Camp staff and other organizational staff as needed.

Furthermore, you feel comfortable with the “unknowns” and a certain amount of “controlled” chaos. In other words, you expect the unexpected that each day at camp can bring.

What You’ll Do

The Office Manager will perform some combination of the following essential functions on a regular basis.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for camp parents/guardians via phone and email

  • Handle incoming calls, respond to inquiries, and clarify camp policies and procedures

  • Manage the online camp platform for applications and communications

  • Provide administrative and operational support for the implementation of LSC Science Camp

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of department documents, including guidelines, onboarding resources, schedules, email lists, and programming data

  • Communicate with the team about departmental and LSC updates

  • Lead by example to foster team growth and collaboration through innovation, diversity, and inclusion

  • Other responsibilities, as assigned

  • Commitment to Mission: Knowledge of Liberty Science Center’s mission and a deep desire to contribute to its advancement

  • Customer Service: Friendly and professional when interacting with campers, families, guests, and all other visitors to LSC

  • Teamwork: A team player with the ability to collaborate with others

  • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; capable of achieving the necessary tone and voice for multiple audiences

  • Project Management: Exceptional organization/ time management and problem-solving skills, including the ability to effectively manage changing priorities

  • Autonomy: Ability to work under minimal supervision and resolve issues independently based on expectations and standards

  • Safety Management: Advanced first aid training and CPR certification

  • Receptive Learner: Ability to quickly absorb new information and build on newly-acquired skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Administrative experience in a formal and/or informal educational environment, preferably in a supervisory or leadership capacity

  • Experience providing customer service and maintaining relationships with partners

  • Enthusiasm and ability to work with diverse audiences

  • Proficiency in Google Applications and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related discipline preferred

  • Proficiency in CampMinder is preferred

  • Experience with a project management platform, such as monday.com, is preferred

Liberty Science Center is located in a beautiful waterfront state park in Jersey City, New Jersey. Not only is Jersey City easy to get to from many points in Northern NJ and Manhattan, but it also holds the title of the most diverse city in the United States. Employees have access to the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, the NJ Path train, and free on-site parking.

Classification and Schedule
Science Camp Office Manager is a seasonal position, and applicants must be available to work for the duration of the summer camp from July 6th through August 14th and work Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM. You will have your weekends off! The Office Manager can expect to work approximately 40 hours per week.

  • The desired start date for this position is June 22nd

  • The desired end date for this position is August 21st.

This position is a non-exempt seasonal position that is not eligible for benefits.

Environmental and Physical Demands

This position will require the ability to work with kids, which means having the ability to remain calm while moving quickly and immediately to respond to various circumstances as they arise. The environment at times may be noisy and very active. This role requires the ability to work inside the building (walking on concrete floors, climbing stairs, pushing or carrying equipment, etc.) and outdoors (walking on uneven ground, exposed to the elements) and to travel to off-site locations in all varieties of weather. The ability to lift 45 pounds is also required.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is $24.00 per hour. Liberty Science Center also provides perks for all eligible part-time employees, including:
