About the Role:
The Facilities Associate plays a critical role in maintaining and enhancing the physical environment of educational institutions to ensure a safe, functional, and welcoming space for students, staff, and visitors. This position involves overseeing routine maintenance, coordinating repairs, and supporting facility operations to uphold compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The Facilities Associate collaborates closely with various departments to facilitate smooth daily operations and special events, contributing to an optimal learning environment. By proactively identifying and addressing facility needs, the associate helps prevent disruptions and supports the institution’s mission of delivering quality education. Ultimately, this role ensures that all facilities are well-maintained, secure, and conducive to educational excellence.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience in facilities maintenance or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of building systems such as HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in an educational or institutional environment.
- Familiarity with safety regulations and compliance standards such as OSHA.
- Basic computer skills including experience with maintenance management software.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
- Performing routine maintenance in school buildings such as fixing non-structural damage, windows, doors or wall repair.
- Repairing broken or leaky plumbing to avoid water damage and restore full use of water fixtures.
- Work on damaged electrical wiring when a shortage or wiring issue occurs.
- Maintaining the building HVAC equipment in order to keep climate control in the facility functioning properly.
- Assisting with preventative measures to the building to reduce the risk of future problems.
- Painting rooms within in building when old paint has become faded or chipped.
- Repairing any potential safety hazards to avoid injuries.
- Sanitizing and wiping down of various surfaces (e.g. door handles, railings, etc)
- Any additional duties & responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Skills:
The Facilities Associate utilizes technical skills daily to inspect, diagnose, and repair various building systems, ensuring operational efficiency and safety. Communication skills are essential for coordinating with contractors, staff, and vendors to schedule maintenance and resolve issues promptly. Organizational skills support managing inventory and maintaining detailed records, which are critical for compliance and budgeting purposes. Problem-solving abilities enable the associate to address unexpected facility challenges effectively, minimizing disruption to educational activities. Additionally, proficiency with maintenance management software and basic computer applications enhances workflow tracking and reporting, contributing to continuous improvement in facility operations.
