GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Staff Accountant performs various accounting and financial duties to aid the financial services team in all aspects of accounting operations and financial management.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Cash Management/Accounts Receivable

  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations at the end of every month for all bank accounts.
  • Prepare and record cash receipts, auto-pay debits and credits to bank on a weekly basis, rack credit card charges and receipts. Reconcile credit cards each month and pay outstanding balance.
  • Handle accounts receivable functions to include invoice processing.

Accounts Payable

  • Handle accounts payable including invoice processing, credit card reconciliations, purchase orders processing and other related transactions.
  • Maintain accounts payable filing.

Accounting Operations/Financial Statements

  • Assists in maintaining financial records and ensuring that financial transactions are properly recorded.
  • Reviews general ledger entries for accuracy and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.
  • Consolidate financial data from various systems into the general ledger and perform detailed reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completion of data transfer.
  • Assist in month-end and year- end closing processes, including reconciliations, yearend 1099 tasks and journal entries.
  • Assist in the preparation of applicable financial reports as requested by users of those reports.
  • Assists in compiling financial data to aid more senior financial staff in the preparation of various financial reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support financial processes and decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of financial transactions.

Usual office type working conditions.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: HBI Executive Team, HBI Board of Trustees, and staff at all levels

External: Vendors, consultants, auditors and financial service providers

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education:

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration OR equivalent related work experience.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in an accounting or finance role.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in non-profit industries
  • Ability to define, implement and manage the creation of new processes.
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines, multi-task, change direction quickly and prioritize workload.
  • Strong general ledger skills and proficiency in financial analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office products.

STATUS: Exempt

SALARY: Level 4

LOCATION: Negotiable, DC Preferred
