As a Cardiothoracic Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:

• Providing comprehensive perioperative nursing care for patients undergoing complex cardiothoracic surgical procedures

• Preparing operating rooms, surgical equipment, instrumentation, and supplies to ensure safe and efficient surgical care

• Performing detailed preoperative assessments while verifying patient identity, surgical procedures, and safety protocols in accordance with regulatory standards

• Serving as the circulating nurse during cardiothoracic procedures, maintaining a sterile environment while anticipating the needs of the surgical team

• Collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, surgical technologists, and multidisciplinary team members to promote optimal patient outcomes

• Monitoring patient status throughout surgical procedures while advocating for patient safety and ensuring adherence to evidence-based perioperative practices

• Assisting with patient positioning, surgical counts, specimen management, documentation, and compliance with infection prevention and safety standards

• Participating in patient and family education regarding the surgical experience and post-operative expectations

• Supporting quality improvement initiatives and contributing to a culture of patient safety, continuous learning, and clinical excellence

• Maintaining accurate documentation while ensuring compliance with organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and professional nursing standards

To be considered for this Cardiothoracic Operating Room Registered Nurse opportunity, you must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred or candidates should be actively pursuing their degree. Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification is required or must be obtained within 90 days of hire. Candidates must possess a minimum of one year of Operating Room nursing experience, with previous cardiothoracic surgical experience considered a strong asset. Successful completion of all departmental orientation requirements is required. The ideal candidate demonstrates exceptional clinical judgment, communication, organization, and critical thinking skills, along with a commitment to delivering safe, compassionate, and evidence-based perioperative care.
