Configuration Management Specialist: Senior

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Configuration Management Specialist: Senior based in United States.

The Senior Configuration Management Specialist will provide leadership and technical oversight for configuration management across highly complex information systems and their associated hardware and software components. This role is responsible for establishing and maintaining accurate configuration baselines throughout the full system lifecycle. You will help ensure engineering changes are properly evaluated, documented, authorized, and implemented without compromising baseline integrity. The position works closely with engineering, quality assurance, logistics, and management stakeholders to maintain strong configuration control. You will also support Configuration Control Boards and configuration audits while guiding configuration management specialists. Accountabilities
  • Lead or supervise a team of configuration management specialists, providing technical direction, guidance, and oversight.
  • Establish, maintain, and control functional and physical configuration baselines throughout the lifecycle of complex information systems and their hardware and software components.
  • Facilitate and advise Configuration Control Boards (CCBs), supporting effective evaluation and authorization of proposed changes.
  • Review engineering change requests and assess their potential impact on configuration baselines, system components, and logistics support elements.
  • Maintain accurate configuration control records, technical documentation, and baseline information.
  • Prepare directives and supporting documentation for the authorization and implementation of approved configuration changes.
  • Support configuration audits and ensure that system baselines remain accurate, complete, traceable, and properly documented.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, quality assurance, logistics, and management representatives to maintain configuration integrity and documentation quality.
  • Monitor configuration management activities throughout the system lifecycle and identify opportunities to strengthen processes, controls, and documentation.
  • Provide expert guidance on configuration management practices and ensure adherence to established procedures, standards, and requirements.
  • Perform additional configuration management duties and responsibilities as assigned, recognizing that priorities and activities may evolve based on program needs.
Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience leading or supervising configuration management specialists or similar technical teams.
  • Proven experience managing configuration baselines for highly complex information systems, including associated software and hardware components.
  • Strong understanding of functional and physical configuration baseline control and configuration management throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Experience facilitating or advising Configuration Control Boards and evaluating engineering change requests.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess the effects of proposed changes on configuration baselines and logistics support requirements.
  • Experience maintaining configuration control records, technical documentation, and change authorization materials.
  • Experience supporting configuration audits and working collaboratively with engineering, quality assurance, and management teams.
  • Relevant professional certification from a nationally recognized technical authority is required or strongly applicable, such as Configuration Management II (CMII), PMP, Certified Manager (CM), Software Engineering Master Certification (SEMC), or ITIL.
  • Must possess an IT-II security clearance or have a current National Agency Check with Local Agency Check and Credit Check (NACLC) at the time of proposal submission.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, documentation, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple configuration activities while maintaining accuracy, traceability, and adherence to established controls.
