Description:

The Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County established the Kohl Jewish Volunteer Center (Kohl JVC) to identify, cultivate, and mobilize volunteers and service opportunities that strengthen both the Jewish community and the broader community through meaningful acts of service and engagement across the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

The Kohl JVC serves as a central hub for volunteerism, connecting individuals and families to impactful opportunities rooted in Jewish values, community responsibility, and relationship-building. Through hands-on service, leadership development, concierge support, and collaborative partnerships, Kohl JVC helps foster a strong culture of volunteerism throughout the region.

The overarching objectives of Kohl JVC are to:

  • Create a culture of service throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast that responds to vital local and global needs
  • Strengthen connections between community members, agencies, synagogues, nonprofit organizations, and service opportunities
  • Support and elevate the work of community partner organizations and the broader nonprofit community
  • Engage individuals and families in meaningful Jewish communal life through volunteerism and service learning
  • Identify and cultivate emerging volunteer leaders and ambassadors
  • Honor the passions, skills, and expertise of community members while advancing Jewish values and collective responsibility

The Volunteer Engagement Officer will play a key role in planning, executing, and growing volunteer initiatives that deepen community connection and engagement. This position will help advance Federation’s broader Community Engagement strategy by creating accessible points of entry into Jewish life through service and volunteer experiences.

The Volunteer Engagement Officer will be responsible for coordinating Kohl JVC annual initiatives, supporting the Anne & Sam Klein Literacy Program, helping to engage newcomers through volunteer experiences, and cultivating strong relationships with volunteers, nonprofit organizations, agencies, synagogues, and community partners throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help develop, implement, and staff innovative volunteer initiatives, service learning experiences, and community engagement opportunities
  • Cultivate and maintain meaningful relationships with volunteers, nonprofit organizations, community partners, synagogues, agencies, schools, and other stakeholders throughout the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast
  • Serve as a relationship-builder and connector, helping individuals and families identify volunteer opportunities aligned with their interests, passions, skills, and values
  • Provide concierge-style support to individuals, families, and groups seeking meaningful volunteer and service opportunities within the Jewish community and broader nonprofit community
  • Support volunteer engagement efforts tied to Federation-wide initiatives, community campaigns, emergency response efforts, and days of service
  • Help create pathways for volunteers to deepen their engagement and leadership within Federation and the broader Jewish community
  • Identify and cultivate emerging volunteer leaders and ambassadors
  • Support newcomer engagement efforts by utilizing volunteerism and service as accessible entry points into Jewish communal life
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of Kohl JVC signature programs, volunteer projects, literacy initiatives, and community-wide service opportunities
  • Support the Anne & Sam Klein Literacy Program, including volunteer coordination, relationship management, and program support
  • Serve as a central conduit for volunteer opportunities throughout the Jewish community and broader nonprofit sector
  • Collaborate with Federation colleagues across Community Engagement, Development, Marketing, and Planning to strengthen constituent engagement and community impact
  • Help communicate the impact and value of volunteerism through storytelling, outreach, marketing, and social media
  • Utilize Federation systems and protocols for data tracking, event management, reporting, marketing requests, supply ordering, and volunteer engagement metrics
  • Track volunteer participation and engagement data using Federation CRM and related systems
  • Represent Federation professionally throughout the community and serve as an ambassador for Jewish communal engagement and service
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications and Success Factors

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1–3 years of experience in volunteer engagement, nonprofit programming, community engagement, education, event planning, or related field preferred
  • Knowledge of the Palm Beaches and Treasure Coast Jewish community preferred
  • Passion for community-building, volunteerism, and relationship-centered engagement
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to cultivate trusted relationships with volunteers, nonprofit professionals, community leaders, and community members from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience with social media, outreach, and community engagement strategies preferred
  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Experience using databases, spreadsheets, CRM systems, and Microsoft Office programs preferred
  • Ability to think creatively and proactively about engagement opportunities and community needs
  • Demonstrated commitment to Jewish values, community service, and relationship-based engagement
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed

Pay Rate

We benchmark our salary ranges for new hires in relation to the role, level, and role location; however, we consider a multitude of factors, to include relevant experience, skills, and education/training, to determine compensation within the identified range.
