Description:

The Lab Simulation Clinical Instructor is responsible for planning, facilitating, and evaluating nursing laboratory and simulation experiences that promote student learning and clinical competence. This position provides instruction in accordance with the nursing curriculum, ensures a safe learning environment, and evaluates students' clinical skills using evidence-based practice and program standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate nursing laboratory and simulation experiences for pre-licensure nursing students.
  • Demonstrate and teach nursing skills using simulation equipment, task trainers, and Gaumard high-fidelity simulation manikins.
  • Operate, program, and troubleshoot Gaumard high-fidelity simulation systems to deliver realistic clinical scenarios.
  • Conduct simulation pre-briefing and debriefing sessions to reinforce clinical judgment, communication, and critical thinking.
  • Evaluate student performance using established competency checklists and grading rubrics.
  • Provide immediate feedback, coaching, and remediation to students.
  • Maintain a safe and professional learning environment that complies with institutional policies and patient safety standards.
  • Ensure simulation equipment, supplies, laboratory materials, and Gaumard simulation software are maintained, organized, and functioning properly.
  • Document student attendance, evaluations, remediation, and clinical performance in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with course coordinators, faculty, and academic leadership to ensure consistency in instruction and evaluation.
  • Participate in curriculum development, faculty meetings, orientation, and professional development activities.
  • Assist with skills validations, competency assessments, and comprehensive clinical evaluations.
  • Promote professionalism, ethical behavior, and adherence to nursing standards.
Requirements:
  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of recent clinical nursing experience.
  • Previous teaching, clinical instruction, or simulation experience preferred.
  • Experience operating Gaumard high-fidelity simulation equipment is preferred.
  • Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred.
  • Knowledge of simulation technology, electronic documentation, and learning management systems.

  • Ability to teach, mentor, and evaluate nursing students.
  • Ability to facilitate high-fidelity simulation scenarios using Gaumard technology.

  • Ability to operate simulation equipment and instructional technology.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and clinical partners.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 25 pounds, and demonstrate nursing procedures.
  • Ability to operate simulation equipment and computers.
  • Ability to respond quickly during simulation activities.

Work Schedule

  • Full-time or part-time.
  • Primarily 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM–7:00 PM), including weekdays and occasional weekends, based on program needs.
  • Flexibility to support laboratory instruction, simulation activities, skills validation, and competency evaluations.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience with Gaumard high-fidelity simulation systems.
  • Experience using ATI, Canvas, and other educational technologies.
  • Knowledge of NCLEX test plans and competency-based nursing education.
  • Passion for mentoring future nurses and promoting clinical excellence.
