General Purpose:

The Extended Care Aide at Calvary Christian Academy is responsible for supervising and caring for students in before-school, after-school, and extended care programs. This role provides a safe, structured, and Christ-centered environment where students can engage in supervised play, homework support, enrichment activities, and character-building interactions outside of regular school hours.

The Extended Care Aide helps ensure that students remain safe, respected, and engaged while reinforcing the school’s mission of developing students spiritually, socially, emotionally, and relationally in a nurturing environment.

Essential Job Functions:

Student Supervision & Safety

  • Supervise students during before-school, after-school, and extended care hours
  • Ensure student safety at all times in all extended care settings
  • Maintain awareness of student location, behavior, and engagement
  • Follow all safety procedures, emergency protocols, and school policies

Structured Activities & Engagement

  • Facilitate age-appropriate activities such as games, crafts, reading, and group play
  • Encourage positive social interaction and cooperation among students
  • Provide a calm, welcoming, and engaging environment
  • Support outdoor play and physical activity supervision when applicable

Homework & Academic Support

  • Provide basic homework support and study time supervision
  • Encourage responsibility and completion of assignments
  • Assist students in maintaining focus and organization during study time
  • Communicate academic concerns to appropriate staff when needed

Behavior & Character Support

  • Reinforce school-wide behavior expectations and routines
  • Use positive redirection and restorative guidance when needed
  • Model Christlike behavior, patience, and respectful communication
  • Encourage kindness, responsibility, and self-control among students

Spiritual & Character Formation

  • Reflect Christlike love and care in all interactions with students
  • Reinforce Biblical values such as kindness, respect, honesty, and forgiveness
  • Create a peaceful and uplifting environment that reflects the school’s mission
  • Encourage students in positive character choices and relationships

Communication & Team Collaboration

  • Communicate important student information to Extended Care Lead or school leadership
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff regarding student needs or concerns
  • Maintain professional communication with families as directed by leadership
  • Support a unified and positive school culture across programs

Facility Care & Organization

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of extended care spaces
  • Ensure materials, games, and supplies are properly used and stored
  • Assist in setup and cleanup of activities and daily routines

Other duties as assigned that are reasonably related to the position's core responsibilities and operational needs.

Requirements:

Spiritual & Character Qualifications

  • A mature follower of Jesus Christ with a heart for serving church and school staff and ministries
  • Alignment with the doctrine, values, and culture of the organization
  • Servant-hearted leadership, integrity, and relational maturity
  • Active participation in the life of the church

Professional Qualifications

  • High school diploma preferred
  • Experience working with children in a school, childcare, or camp setting preferred
  • Strong communication, patience, and relational skills
  • Ability to supervise groups of children in active environments
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred or required depending on assignment

  • This role requires presence on church and school campuses and participation in faculty meetings
