Quality Specialist I

Department: Quality Assurance Division: Operations

As the Quality Specialist I, you will be responsible for the functions outlined below:

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for demonstrating commitment to and leadership of environmental health and safety principles, policies and procedures.
  • Perform receiving inspections on incoming manufactured and purchased firearm components to verify conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and defined acceptance criteria.
  • Verify part number, revision level, quantity, identification, and applicable material certifications or traceability documentation before accepting product.
  • Perform visual, dimensional, and basic functional inspections using approved inspection methods and calibrated measurement equipment.
  • Follow established inspection plans, sampling requirements, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality and safety procedures when evaluating incoming material.
  • Accurately record inspection results and disposition status in applicable quality records, inspection forms, or electronic systems while maintaining required lot and material traceability.
  • Identify, label, and segregate nonconforming or suspect material in accordance with established procedures and provide clear inspection findings for further review.
  • Support nonconformance and Material Review Board (MRB) activities by providing inspection data, measurements, photographs, or other objective evidence as requested.
  • Communicate inspection discrepancies and documentation issues promptly to the appropriate Quality, Receiving, Purchasing, Manufacturing, or Supplier Quality personnel.
  • Maintain inspection equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition; verify measurement equipment is within calibration before use and report damaged or questionable equipment.
  • Participate in daily toolbox meetings and other safety or quality discussions as required.
  • Participates in the company’s efforts to continuously improve in Safety, 6S, Quality, Delivery and Productivity.
  • Expected to be a contributor to the company standards on high integrity, safety, fair and equitable treatment and a positive work environment
  • Works under general supervision and seeks guidance when drawings, specifications, acceptance criteria, or inspection results are unclear.
  • Other responsibilities as deemed appropriate or necessary by management.

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 2+ years of prior related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Working knowledge of basic quality inspection concepts, practices, and procedures used in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, work instructions, and other inspection documentation.
  • Basic understanding of dimensional tolerances and GD&T concepts, with the ability to apply them during routine inspections as trained.
  • Ability to use common inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, pin gauges, thread gauges, height gauges, and other basic measuring equipment, or the ability to become proficient through training.
  • Ability to follow documented inspection plans, sampling requirements, and acceptance criteria consistently.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately document inspection results, lot information, and nonconformance details.
  • Ability to perform basic shop math, including decimals, fractions, and unit conversions used during inspection activities.
  • Teamwork and the ability to cooperate and work proactively with Receiving, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Engineering, and other Quality personnel is a must.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently, use sound judgment, prioritize inspection workload, and meet required deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently within established procedures and escalate questions or nonconforming conditions when appropriate.
  • Ability to recognize visual or cosmetic defects and compare product condition to approved visual standards or samples.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for documenting findings and discussing inspection results with internal customers.
  • May be required to work varying shifts as needed.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize and work in accordance with our Company Values.
  • Competent with computer software such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and able to learn quality or ERP systems used to record inspection activity.
  • It is understood employees may be assigned to other departments, functional groups, and/or shifts as deemed necessary by management
  • Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry awkward items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires intermittent standing, walking, sitting and bending throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment, to include working in and around machinery, exposure to noise and chemicals, lights/lasers, etc.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protection Equipment as required by your position and/or Company policy.
