JOB DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLEStaff Accountant (Remote)DATEMarch 18, 2026POSITION SUMMARYThe Staff Accountant (SA) maintains accurate financial records, prepares journal entries, and reconciles accounts to support monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings. The SA manages daily financial and accounting tasks, including accounts payable/receivable, and ensures the completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of accounting records in compliance with regulations. The SA performs job duties according to the agency's mission, vision, and philosophy.REPORTS TODirector of FinanceREQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting, finance, or business administrationUp to two (2) years of experience in accounting.Familiarity with commonly used accounting and spreadsheet applicationsPREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEExperience working with business accounting software, including Sage Intacct and QuickBooksEligibility to obtain the CPA within three (3) years of employmentESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSMaintains the general ledger and all related accounts with proper documentation and records of all company transactions; reviews entries to the general and subsidiary ledgers to ensure accuracy and compliance with the company’s and generally accepted accounting principles; controls all changes to the chart of accounts. Responsible for monthly and year-end closing of the general ledger, including preparation of journal entries.Responsible for maintaining computerized accounting systems, backup control, assisting other accounting staff with questions, and preparing computer-generated reports and statements.Administers preparation of interim, year-end, and comparative financial reports; performs and provides analysis of current results to prior periods and/or budget. Prepares required government reports as directed by the controller and responds to inquiries as necessary.Stays current with accounting developments, best practices, and developing laws; monitors accounting systems and recommends new or revised policies and procedures.Prepares monthly bank reconciliation for all accounts; verifies accuracy of bank statements and resolves questions or problems; maintains integrity of cash balances and cash flow systems.Responsible for the review and preparation of payroll records and payroll processing.Maintains fixed asset records and control; determines depreciation terms/rates to apply to capitalized items; assists with preparing documents for property tax returns.Assists the Director of Finance in coordinating year-end financial audits and preparing schedules and documents for independent (third-party) auditors.Maintains other accounts and performs other accounting duties, as required or requested by the Director of Finance.COMPETENCYDemonstrate knowledge of accounting theory - Generally Accepted Accounting Principles or International Financial Reporting StandardsAbility to apply statistical calculations, analysis of variance (ANOVA), correlation techniques, sampling theory, and knowledge of algebra, linear equations, and other analytics. Ability to prepare standard financial reports and legal documents.Demonstrate understanding of eligibility requirements, application procedures for local, state, and federal resources and programs, particularly Medicaid and Medicaid waiver programs.Communicate using professional written and oral communication skills. Demonstrate an ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.Communicate efficiently with customers, vendors, management, and other stakeholders.Work independently, prioritize work activities, and use time efficiently.Proficient computer skills in Google Suite or similar software, ADP Payroll, and Sage Intacct.Respond to calls and emails within 24 hours, Monday through Friday, and intervene when services are needed in times of crisis and/or outside regular work schedules.Participate in regularly scheduled meetings and complete training as required to execute job duties and as requested by the DDA and Optimal. Notify the immediate supervisor before the start of the workday if unable to report to work.Adhere to the privacy and confidentiality of client records and communication as outlined in HIPAA regulations, Optimal policy, and state and federal laws.
