Reporting to the Program Manager, the Transition House Worker will provide guidance to clients in accessing confidential services such as financial aid, legal assistance, housing, and counseling. Key duties will include the following:
- Collaborate with mothers to meet each child’s individual needs
- Respect and support diverse parenting styles
- Provide emotional support to mothers coping with domestic violence
- Offer parenting guidance and strategies for managing challenging behaviors
- Accommodate childminding requests with flexibility
- Coordinate and implement recreational activities for children
- Prepare materials and set up engaging, enriching experiences
The ideal candidate will possess a Diploma in a related human or social service field, along with a minimum of one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong communication and crisis management skills, coupled with a genuine passion for assisting those in crisis, are key to success in this role.
The successful candidate should have a deep understanding of violence against women and its intergenerational effects, along with knowledge of relevant policies and legislation. Key skills include multilingualism, providing parenting support, and coordinating recreational activities for children. The role involves organizing culturally appropriate child services, maintaining safety and cleanliness of toys and facilities, and leveraging community resources with strong advocacy skills. Additionally, the candidate should be adept at delivering educational opportunities and managing stress effectively.
A current Level 1 First Aid/CPR Certificate, a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License, and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract are required. Access to a reliable vehicle is preferred.

This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
