Performs administrative duties related to the operation of the Engineering Division
Assists the Superintendent of Engineering as required, relating to in-house surveying performed, routine drawings, sketches, diagrams required for permits, work orders, etc.
Inspections and Operating Functions
Conducts construction inspections and performs all necessary research. Inspects City and private site developments, using working knowledge and experience in modern construction practices to insure compliance with the
various City codes and governmental regulations.
Reads and interprets maps, aerial photographs, as well as topographical maps. Reviews street lighting and installation requests, reviews construction permits for right of way utilization by other utilities, issues work orders for maintenance of City utilities.
Performs environmental and wetland inspections. Must be familiar with environmental issues such as wetland protection, permitting, wetland identification, mitigation, and wildlife protection.
Attendances at project meetings and pre-construction meetings.
Project Review
Participates in the review of engineering projects prepared by consultants.
Serves as survey party chief and performs related fieldwork such as survey and
layout of utility installations.
Performs other duties as assigned or required by the Superintendent of Engineering.
Arborist Functions
Serves as the City's resource person with respect to the establishment and maintenance of trees within the community.
Makes recommendations regarding the appropriate selection, proper placement and care of trees throughout the City.
Inspects trees for viability and/or disease; makes recommendations for disease treatment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
Minimum Education Requirement: High School diploma or GED equivalent.
Preferred Education: Associate degree in civil engineering, surveying or related area.
Required Experience: Three to five years in civil engineering and at least two years of management/supervision, preferably in a municipal environment.
Preferred Experience: Five to seven years in civil engineering and at least three years of management/supervision, preferably in a municipal environment.
LICENSURE
Valid Florida Driver's License.
Certification in concrete inspection, asphalt technician, water/wastewater, environmental inspection.
International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Certified Arborist or Master Arborist.
An equivalent combination of education/training and experience may be substituted for required education/training and experience requirements.
Minimum starting wage $26.91 ($55,986). The ideal candidate will be an ISA Certified Master Arborist with Tree Risk Assessment Qualification credentials. GIS mapping skills as it relates to tree inventory management & municipal / government experience preferred.
