RN Staff at Willis-Knighton Health System – Shreveport, Louisiana

RN ST - 8 Tower is a 21-bed Ortho/Neuro Unit. Our nursing staff are experienced at caring for orthopedic and spinal surgery patients in addition to many other medical surgical patients. Most common surgeries include: Total Joint Replacement (knee, hip, and shoulder); bone fractures with internal fixation, pinning and ankle repair. Spinal surgery includes: Spinal fusions, discectomy, kyphoplasty, laminectomy, and 360 fusion (anterior/posterior) of the lumbar or cervical spine. The goal is for Nurse/Patient ratio of 1:5 with the Charge Nurse, LPN, Unit Clerk and nursing assistants as support staff. The schedule is based on 12-hour shifts; 7a.m or 7p.m. A 12-week orientation period with a preceptor will be provided for the new graduate, including a unique nurse residency program that continues for the first year of employment. Experienced nurses interested in working on this unit will also be provided an orientation based on their experience and level of comfort.
