Lead Operating Room Technician (Lead OR Tech)

Our Lead Operating Room Technicians work collaboratively to promote optimal patient safety and ensure seamless surgical workflows across our dynamic operating rooms. By providing expert clinical equipment application, maintaining strict aseptic techniques, and offering proactive technical oversight, our leads ensure our surgical teams receive constant, reliable clinical support. We view our operating room technical leaders as a critical component of the surgical plan and recognize the incredibly positive impact they have on the safety journey and outcomes of our patients. We hope you are excited by the opportunity to deliver and coordinate care in a way that redefines the patient experience through teamwork, compassion, and excellence!

A Typical Day:

  • Managing daily surgical workflows and maintaining exceptional eye-hand coordination to assist surgical teams during complex, fast-paced procedures.
  • Operating, troubleshooting, and ensuring the precise function and routine maintenance of critical operating room clinical equipment.
  • Applying advanced knowledge of aseptic techniques to prepare sterile fields, manage instrumentation, and minimize infection risks.
  • Communicating effectively with diverse populations including professional medical staff, technical personnel, patients of all ages, and vendor representatives. [1]
  • Navigating a dynamic, high-stress environment calmly while making rapid, safe decisions to support patient-focused care.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods during surgical procedures while remaining highly alert to the team's needs.
  • Discerning critical color-coded medical data and reading detailed technical manuals accurately to ensure patient safety.
  • Moving, pushing, and pulling heavy mobile devices or wheeled clinical equipment safely with little to no assistance.
  • Lifting and positioning surgical instrumentation, trays, and essential medical devices weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Adhering strictly to safety protocols regarding exposure to anesthetic gases, bloodborne pathogens, radiation, power tools, and chemicals.

This role might be for you if:

  • You are passionate about maintaining a highly vigilant, precise, and safety-focused operating room environment.
  • You keep yourself current on aseptic techniques, medical terminology, and surgical equipment upgrades or advancements.
  • You set a high bar for yourself and your team to ensure flawless communication, sterile integrity, and meticulous equipment care.
  • You recognize and respect the impact your technical accuracy and physical endurance have on surgical success and clinical safety.
  • You believe that patient safety and operational excellence are optimized through open communication, physical coordination, and rigorous attention to detail.

To be considered:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required (college-level coursework in a related technical area preferred).

  • Previous experience as an Operating Room Technician is strongly preferred.
  • One year of related work experience with medical equipment, tools, and technical maintenance is preferred.
