JOB SUMMARY
The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is looking for a skilled full-time Permit Technician to join our Building & Licensing team! This role keeps the Building & Licensing Department running smoothly by helping customers with permits, business licenses, and everyday inquires. MAJOR DUTIES
- Provides secretarial support to the department; greets visitors, visitors, answers phones and routes calls; receives, sorts and distributes mail; processes outgoing mail; responds to questions and public complaints.
- Assists customers with completing applications for licenses and permits. Directs customers further with obtaining proper paperwork.
- Researches and processes customer information needed for approved permits and permanent records; reviews building plans to collect pertinent permit data; issues permit after Director approves; determines price of permit by flat rate fee schedule.
- Enters all data into computer permit program, issues permit to customer and collects fee for such.
- Creates permanent file for permits. Closes out completed and/or expired permit files. Maintains boxes to be transported to record center for future storage. Maintains file for record center files.
- Receives, processes, and verifies business license applications. Enters all information into computer, issues new licenses, and renews existing licenses after zoning and state approval and collects fee for such. Assists with mailings for business license renewals.
- Logs daily inspections into permit program. Serves as a liaison between inspector, customer, contractors, and utility company.
- Notifies 911 of new or updated address change request. Records 911 addresses to permit program and on permit files.
- Assists in preparing and sending letters to property owners about overgrown lots, abandoned vehicles, abandoned property and/or any other property nuisance complaints.
- Receives and processes submittals for Land Disturbing activities and collects fees for such.
- Arranges preconstruction meetings; records and documents site visit reports, plan modifications, and closing site development until building construction commences.
- Prepares flood letters for customers that are located in and out of flood zones.
- Performs related duties.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

- Geography of county.
- FEMA website, regulations, restrictions and requirements.
- Flood maps, flood zone requirements, and elevation certificates.
- Interpersonal relations.
- Oral and written communication.
- Reading building plans and site plans.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed at desk while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching, or walking. The employee occasionally/frequently lifts light objects and occasionally lifts heavy objects, and distinguishes between shades of color.
- The work is typically performed in an office.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Associates degree in a related course of study is preferred.
- At least one (1) year of related experience required.
SALARY AND BENEFITS
This is a full-time position with a starting annual compensation of $42,799 (Pay Grade 12A), or $20.58 per hour. Work hours are typically 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
