Job Description

2nd Shift - Monday-Friday
Hours: 2:30 pm-11:00 pm

10% Shift Premium

We are looking for a motivated individual to join our team as a CNC Operator I. We are looking for an individual who is eager to learn and grow with our team.   • Support the Manufacturing operation by consistently meeting or exceeding the departments’ Efficiency and Productivity Goals
  • To work as an effective team member to consistently achieve 98% serviceability on Pipe Nipples
  • Uphold the Merit Brass corporate mission statement, acting with a sense of urgency and upholding the core values as published
  • Maintain a professional, ethical and respectful attitude while exercising teamwork
Responsibilities
  • Operates a multi-machine cell in a safe manner in accordance with Merit Brass safety policies and procedures.
  • Produces pipe nipples according to Merit Brass quality standards and productivity goals
  • Operates CNC Lathes & Bar-feeders, as directed by the CNC Supervisor, to consistently perform multiple cutting and machining operations with various materials and alloys
  • Prepares and load raw material into the machines
  • Learns to adjust and replace machine tooling as necessary
  • Translates instructions into computer commands so that the machines will perform the correct functions
  • Learns and understands our manufacturing processes and makes recommendations to the department supervisor and CNC technician to improve the manufacturing process when applicable
  • Understands the needs and have the ability to collect and analyze data to improve tool life, quality, and the machining process
  • Performs additional side operations as necessary during machine cycle time as required
  • Performs daily maintenance of machines as required
  • Performs other responsibilities as needed to ensure the success of the CNC operations Manufacturing Department and the company as a whole
  • Begins to read and interpret Pipe Nipple and NPT Thread standards
  • Advocates the spirit of teamwork and personal accountability in the performance of other duties and responsibilities as requested by department supervisor
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent education
  • 2 years general machining experience or CNC Machining Certificate, preferred
  • Possesses mechanical and technical aptitude with strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Willing and able to continuously improve yourself, others, and the operations in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Ability to accurately use and interpret findings of quality inspection equipment including thread gauges, calipers, rulers, indicators and optical comparator
  • Basic computer skills including data entry and Microsoft Office based software
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Capacity to work in a total quality management environment with continuous process improvement
  • Standing, bending for the entire shift. Capable of lifting 50-70 lbs. and frequently pushing and pulling bulky material and carts weighing up to 200 lbs.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime when asked by a manager or supervisor
