Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a UX Designer – Retail & Operational Systems based in Canada.
This role offers the opportunity to shape intuitive, efficient digital experiences for frontline retail and financial operations. You will design transactional systems used in fast-paced, compliance-driven environments where usability, accuracy, and speed are critical. Your work will simplify complex workflows while helping users complete high-frequency tasks with fewer errors and less training. You’ll collaborate closely with product, engineering, operations, risk, compliance, and legal stakeholders to turn business and regulatory requirements into clear user experiences. The position combines research, workflow architecture, interaction design, visual design, prototyping, and design-system development. It is an ideal opportunity for a UX professional who enjoys solving complex operational problems and using emerging AI-assisted design tools to accelerate iteration.
- Observe frontline workflows to identify friction points, workarounds, training gaps, adoption barriers, and opportunities to improve operational efficiency.
- Lead UX design for high-frequency, compliance-sensitive retail and financial transactions, balancing user needs with business, regulatory, and technical constraints.
- Architect intuitive workflows covering areas such as item intake, pricing, customer profiles, loyalty enrollment, inventory, loan processing, payments, and fraud prevention.
- Design interfaces that prioritize data accuracy, keyboard-first and mobile navigation, conditional logic, validation, error prevention, and efficient task completion.
- Partner with product, engineering, operations, risk, compliance, and legal teams to translate business rules and regulatory requirements into usable interfaces and workflows.
- Create wireframes, interactive prototypes, annotated specifications, and pixel-perfect production-ready UI designs.
- Validate concepts through usability testing, workshops, design reviews, and iterative feedback cycles.
- Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary keystrokes, shorten learning curves, streamline workflows, and minimize operational errors.
- Contribute to and evolve design systems and component libraries optimized for high-volume operational environments.
- Apply AI-assisted design and prototyping tools to accelerate exploration and iteration while maintaining strong standards for usability and visual quality.
- 4+ years of professional UX/UI design experience, particularly with operational workflows, internal tools, transaction-processing platforms, or similarly complex systems.
- Strong expertise in information architecture, form design, workflow optimization, conditional logic, and task-oriented interaction design.
- Hands-on experience creating, maintaining, and evolving design systems and reusable component libraries.
- Advanced visual design skills with a strong eye for typography, color, spacing, hierarchy, consistency, and interaction details.
- Demonstrated ability to translate regulatory, compliance, and business requirements into clear and intuitive user experiences.
- Advanced proficiency with Figma, including Figma AI and Figma Make.
- Strong ability to communicate design rationale and collaborate effectively with engineering, product, operations, compliance, and leadership teams.
- Curiosity and adaptability toward emerging design technologies and AI-assisted workflows.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Experience with item valuation, customer onboarding, identity verification, loyalty programs, payments, or similar transactional systems is an asset.
- Experience designing task-oriented interfaces for non-desk users in high-volume retail or operational environments is an asset.
- Familiarity with AI-assisted prototyping tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Figma AI is a plus.
- Understanding of stateful prototyping, including focus states, transitions, loading states, and complex interaction sequences.
- Knowledge of prompt engineering, conversational or multimodal interfaces, computer-vision experiences, and AI-assisted features with appropriate trust, transparency, and user-override mechanisms is valued.
- A portfolio demonstrating strong UX/UI work, workflow optimization, and AI-assisted design iterations is preferred.
- Fully remote position available anywhere in Canada.
- Full-time employment with a salary range of $60,000–$70,000 CAD.
- Opportunity to work on complex retail and financial technology experiences with meaningful operational impact.
- Exposure to modern AI-assisted design and prototyping workflows, including emerging tools and technologies.
- Collaborative environment involving product, engineering, operations, risk, compliance, and legal stakeholders.
- Opportunity to influence design systems, transactional workflows, and production-ready user experiences.
- Inclusive workplace committed to diversity, respect, and equal opportunity.
- Professional growth through exposure to complex, enterprise-level design challenges and evolving digital technologies.
