The position plays a key role in improving coordination, reducing project risks, and ensuring construction documents meet quality and compliance standards.

The Virtual Construction Designer will be responsible for developing accurate BIM models, producing detailed construction documentation, and supporting project coordination throughout the design process.
- Organize and manage architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) data to support shop drawings according to established standards.
- Create and maintain shop drawing files based on project scope and requirements.
- Develop detailed 3D models for piping, plumbing, and/or ductwork systems while ensuring compliance with building codes, construction standards, and project specifications.
- Design and route mechanical systems according to internal standards and project requirements.
- Include all necessary components, system details, and documentation within models and drawings.
- Identify design conflicts, missing information, or clarification needs and communicate issues to project leadership.
- Coordinate mechanical systems with other trades by reviewing models, resolving conflicts, and adjusting layouts as needed.
- Produce coordination drawings, sign-off documentation, and record drawings.
- Complete final detailing by adding annotations, tags, dimensions, and supporting sketches required for construction documents.
- Prepare piping/plumbing spool sheets, bills of materials, fabrication files, equipment take-offs, and related documentation when required.
- Perform quality assurance and quality control reviews and implement necessary revisions.
- Support a strong safety culture and contribute to a collaborative, professional work environment.
The ideal candidate is a BIM/CAD professional with experience in mechanical systems, construction documentation, and digital modeling tools.
- 3+ years of trade apprenticeship experience combined with CAD/BIM training or relevant AEC experience with BIM/CAD training.
- 2+ years of drafting or design experience in piping, plumbing, sheet metal, or related mechanical industries.
- Strong understanding of construction practices, particularly mechanical systems and building coordination.
- Proficiency with BIM and design software, including Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication, and/or Navisworks.
- Experience creating and managing detailed 3D models and construction drawings.
- Familiarity with building codes and standards related to plumbing and piping systems preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret technical documents and project requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, engineers, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet project deadlines.
