Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Cloud / AI Developer based in the United States.
The Cloud / AI Developer will design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable, Java-based cloud applications running on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
You will build cloud-native services supporting image capture, processing, storage, retrieval, and distribution workflows.
The role also offers the opportunity to integrate AI capabilities such as computer vision, OCR, data extraction, redaction, and image search into production applications.
You will work across engineering, DevOps, QA, product, and security teams to deliver reliable and compliant solutions.
The position combines hands-on software development with API design, automation, observability, troubleshooting, and cloud operations.
You will contribute to architecture decisions, engineering standards, code reviews, and technical documentation.
This is a fully remote opportunity for an experienced developer looking to work at the intersection of Java, cloud engineering, and applied AI.
- Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based backend applications using modern engineering practices and cloud-native architectures.
- Build and operate GCP solutions using serverless and/or container-based technologies to support image-centric business workflows.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs for internal applications and external partners, including authentication, authorization, documentation, versioning, and backward compatibility.
- Build image processing pipelines covering capture, ingestion, validation, transformation, metadata extraction, indexing, storage, retrieval, retention, archival, and deletion.
- Integrate AI capabilities into image-driven applications, including computer vision, OCR, data extraction, redaction, quality checks, and similarity search.
- Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, resolve defects, and implement preventative improvements.
- Apply secure engineering practices, including IAM, least-privilege access, service accounts, encryption, secrets management, auditing, and compliant data handling.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code solutions in collaboration with DevOps teams.
- Implement observability through logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, monitoring, and operational documentation.
- Participate in architecture and design reviews, code reviews, technical documentation, and the development of shared engineering standards.
- Collaborate closely with product management, QA, DevOps, engineering, and security stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution; candidates without a relevant four-year degree may qualify with an additional four years of relevant professional experience.
- 8+ years of professional experience developing backend services and APIs using Java, including Spring, Spring Boot, or comparable frameworks.
- Hands-on experience designing, deploying, and operating cloud applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including serverless and/or containerized architectures.
- Strong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and integrating authentication and authorization mechanisms.
- Experience with image-centric workflows, including image capture, ingestion, object storage, transformation, and metadata management.
- Experience integrating AI capabilities into software applications, such as computer vision, OCR, extraction, redaction, or search, with an understanding of basic AI evaluation and monitoring concepts.
- Knowledge of secure cloud engineering practices, including IAM, least privilege, service accounts, secrets management, encryption in transit and at rest, and audit logging.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or equivalent, and Git-based development workflows.
- Strong troubleshooting and production-support capabilities, including defect triage, performance optimization, and the use of cloud observability tools.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, QA, DevOps, product, and security teams.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust designation, including completion of an onsite fingerprinting and background investigation process.
- Must meet applicable U.S. residency requirements associated with the security investigation. Generally, selected candidates must have maintained the required U.S. residency history during the applicable lookback period, subject to specific rules and exceptions.
