Job Description

Job Title: Patient Surgical Liaison (PRN)

Location: Carroll Hospital, 200 Memorial Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157
Employment Type: PRN (As Needed)

Job Summary
The Patient Surgical Liaison (PSL) is responsible for managing the surgical waiting room and supporting patients’ families throughout the perioperative process. This role serves as a key communication link between families, surgical teams, and clinical staff, ensuring that families are informed, supported, and guided with a compassionate, customer-focused approach. The PSL plays an essential role in maintaining a smooth flow of communication and enhancing the overall patient and family experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the surgical waiting room and coordinate communication between families and perioperative services
  • Provide timely updates to families regarding patient progress during surgery
  • Maintain accurate records of family member locations when they leave the waiting area
  • Escort families to appropriate inpatient units following patient admission
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings between surgeons and families post-surgery
  • Collaborate with charge nurses and clinical staff to communicate delays or changes in surgical timelines
  • Guide families on how to use and understand surgical tracking systems
  • Address and escalate concerns from patients’ families or physicians as appropriate
  • Identify and report safety or facility-related issues using internal systems
  • Support outpatient prescription processes as needed

Qualifications

  • Previous healthcare experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-stress environments
  • Customer service-oriented mindset
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clinical and administrative teams

Reporting Structure
Reports directly to the Clinical Manager of Surgical Services
