POSITION SUMMARY: (WHAT, HOW, WHY)
The Retail Merchandise Processor plays a critical role in supporting Goodwill’s mission by efficiently processing donated goods into high-quality, sale-ready merchandise. This position partners with the production and retail team members in a fast-paced environment to sort, price, and prepare merchandise for the sales floor in a manner that drives revenue, supports sustainability goals, and delivers exceptional customer and donor experience. This group will use the LEAN process to move donated items quickly.
Retail Merchandise Processors are brand ambassadors who represent Goodwill’s values through professional conduct, teamwork, and consistent attention to quality, safety, and customer service. The shift for this role is Monday through Friday from 7:30 am – 4 pm.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet productivity, quality, and accuracy standards
- Ability to follow instructions, prioritize tasks, and work independently and as part of a team
- Basic comfort using technology and tools related to retail and production operations
- Ability to solve problems in collaboration with team members
- Commitment to providing legendary customer service through friendly, respectful, and engaging interactions with all internal and external stakeholders
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled environment
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds routinely, with occasional heavier loads using proper equipment or assistance
- Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, bending, kneeling and climbing for prolonged periods of time (up to 7 hours per 8-hour shift)
- Frequent exposure to airborne particles while performing job duties
Role and Responsibilities:
- Sort and process soft-line and hardline merchandise from containers to determine appropriateness for the sales floor in accordance with established guidelines.
- Maintain awareness of brand names, designer labels, current trends, and vintage styles
- Sort apparel into boutique/Ecommerce, sellable, and salvage categories according to quota.
- Accurately record and track processed donations using established tools and systems
- Place items on hangers and place hangers on rolling rack, keeping similar items grouped.
- Maintain a pace at which one is able to meet daily quota for pieces processed.
- Comply with safety and security practices including reporting safety hazards and injuries to the manager on duty (report must be made at time of incident)
- Provide legendary customer service to all our donors/customers, including friendly and engaging interactions.
- Comply with all policies, including participating in store meetings and trainings.
- Adhere to work schedule set by supervisor.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organized work environment, including production area.
- Maintain a professional appearance adhering to Goodwill uniform standards.
- Demonstrate legendary service by supporting internal operations and team members with a positive, cooperative, and solutions‑focused attitude.
- Serve as a Goodwill brand ambassador by modeling professionalism, safety, and positive behavior while working on the premises and representing the organization.
- Protect and promote the Goodwill brand by avoiding unprofessional conduct, language, or activities while on duty or on any Goodwill property
- Other duties as assigned
