About This Position

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Pharmacy Technician – Inpatient (Full Time, Day Shift) Job Summary Sinai Chicago is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented, and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join our inpatient pharmacy team in a full-time capacity. In a fast-paced teaching hospital environment, this role supports the safe and efficient preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications to inpatient care areas. The Pharmacy Technician plays a critical role in maintaining automated dispensing cabinet inventory, supporting sterile and non-sterile medication preparation, and ensuring timely medication delivery to support patient care. This position works closely with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate medication distribution, maintain regulatory compliance, and support continuous pharmacy operations. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and committed to medication safety and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities / Duties Medication Preparation & Distribution Prepare, package, label, and distribute medications accurately under pharmacist supervision. Deliver medications to inpatient units in a timely manner, including STAT and urgent requests. Assist with sterile compounding and IV preparation in accordance with USP 797 and 800 standards. Refill medication carts, trays, and emergency kits as assigned. Support medication returns, waste processes, and proper medication storage. Automation & Inventory Management Restock and maintain automated dispensing cabinets (e.g., Omnicell) to ensure medication availability. Monitor medication inventory, rotate stock, and remove expired or soon-to-expire medications. Assist with medication ordering, receiving, and inventory documentation. Support inventory management processes to maintain accurate and efficient medication supply. Troubleshoot automated dispensing cabinet issues and escalate concerns as appropriate. Operational Support Assist pharmacists with daily pharmacy workflow and operational tasks. Maintain clean and organized work areas, including cleanroom and compounding environments. Ensure compliance with all pharmacy policies, procedures, and safety standards. Support pharmacy operations during high workload periods and staffing needs. Participate in departmental workflow improvements and operational initiatives. Compliance, Safety & Documentation Adhere to all hospital policies, USP 797/800, Joint Commission standards, and state and federal pharmacy regulations. Maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation related to pharmacy operations. Follow medication safety practices to ensure accurate preparation and distribution. Assist with quality assurance activities and compliance monitoring as needed. Communication & Collaboration Work collaboratively with pharmacists, technicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Communicate effectively regarding medication availability, distribution, and operational needs. Escalate workflow, medication, or operational issues to pharmacists or leadership as appropriate. Support a team-oriented environment focused on safe and efficient patient care. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent required. Active Illinois Pharmacy Technician License in good standing. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred. Hospital pharmacy technician experience preferred. Experience with automated dispensing systems (e.g., Omnicell) preferred. Basic knowledge of sterile compounding and medication distribution processes preferred. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team.
