Payroll Accountant - Franklin Mountain Management Full-Time

Franklin Mountain Management (FMM) provides best-practice Business Services to FMI and FM family of companies in the areas such as Financial Accounting, Investor Relations, HR, IT, Purchasing and Procurement, Legal, and Risk Management. FMM is seeking a payroll professional to join our team in the role of Payroll Accountant. The position is based in our corporate office located downtown El Paso, we offer competitive pay, benefits, and opportunity for advancement.

Job Summary:

The Payroll Accountant position is responsible for bi-weekly payroll processing and administration in compliance with federal and state regulations and departmental procedures. This includes timely and accurate processing and reporting of payroll data, error-free payroll administration and applicable accounting functions.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Process bi-weekly payroll for various entities pertaining to various industries located in Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado.

  1. Gather and audit timekeeping data and resolve related issues.
  2. Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processing and accounting systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  3. Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  4. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  5. Address and resolve all payroll-related inquiries.
  6. Manage time off accruals and usage of vacation, sick or PTO hours as applicable.
  7. Audit and maintain the payroll system, processes, and reports to ensure all data is accurate.
  8. Calculates tax deductions, reconciles tax reporting, and monitors payroll compliance.
  9. Reconciliation of payroll tax deductions with the general ledger
  10. Monitoring of legislative changes and enter updates in payroll system.
  11. Generate reports for audits.
  12. Handle tax-related reporting and employee queries.
  13. Record, balance and reconcile payroll expenses and incorporate them into financial statements.
  14. Prepare and enter journal entries and process monthly/quarterly/annual reports to include yearend processing, wages, deductions, employer taxes, etc.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, or Finance.
  • 5 years multi-state and multi-industry payroll processing experience.
  • Software Proficiency:
    • ADP Workforce Now Payroll, Time and Attendance and HRIS
    • POS/Timekeeping systems: Aloha, CrunchTime, Toast a plus
    • MS Office Suite, advanced proficiency with MS Excel strongly preferred
