Lead Sleep Technologist

Our Lead Sleep Technologists work collaboratively with physicians, respiratory therapists, nurses, and sleep center staff to deliver exceptional diagnostic and therapeutic care for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients with sleep disorders. As both a clinical expert and team leader, the Lead Sleep Technologist provides comprehensive sleep testing services while overseeing the daily operations and performance of the sleep laboratory. A Typical Day:
  • Performing comprehensive sleep studies for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients, including polysomnography (PSG), PAP titration studies, Multiple Sleep Latency Tests (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests (MWT), parasomnia studies, and home sleep apnea testing (HSAT).
  • Collecting, analyzing, and integrating patient information to determine individualized testing needs while ensuring compliance with physician orders and laboratory protocols.
  • Demonstrating proper electrode application using the international 10-20 electrode placement system and ensuring accurate physiologic signal acquisition throughout testing.
  • Preparing, calibrating, maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting sleep diagnostic equipment, including pulse oximetry, transcutaneous monitoring, end-tidal CO₂ monitoring, CPAP/BiPAP devices, and other sleep laboratory technology.
  • Monitoring sleep studies in real time, recognizing and correcting signal artifacts, documenting significant clinical events, and implementing therapeutic interventions to ensure patient safety and high-quality data collection.
  • Titrating CPAP and BiPAP therapy according to American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) guidelines.
  • Scoring sleep studies in accordance with AASM scoring criteria while maintaining an inter-scorer reliability rate greater than 85%.
  • Completing patient documentation, study charges, and ensuring all records are accurate, complete, and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Coordinating the sleep study reporting process, including dictation, transcription, physician final reports, archiving, filing, and distribution of completed studies.
  • Maintaining inventory and ensuring adequate supplies and equipment are available for daily laboratory operations.
  • Assisting the Administrative Director with daily sleep center operations, workflow coordination, staffing support, and continuous process improvement initiatives.
  • Providing leadership, guidance, mentorship, and education to sleep technologists while serving as the department's clinical resource for sleep medicine best practices.
  • Supporting onboarding, competency validation, quality assurance activities, regulatory compliance, and patient and staff education initiatives.
  • Completing annual continuing medical education (CME) requirements and maintaining competency with evolving sleep medicine standards and technologies.
  • Collaborating closely with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to deliver exceptional patient care while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.

To be considered:
  • Current New Jersey Polysomnographic Technologist License required.
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) preferred.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Registered EEG Technician with sleep laboratory experience will also be considered, provided they meet New Jersey licensure requirements.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification required through American Heart Association
  • Registration through the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM), Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT), or National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) preferred, as applicable.
  • Certification in Clinical Sleep Health (CCSH), or eligibility to obtain the certification, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sleep study scoring using current AASM guidelines is strongly preferred.
  • Previous leadership or lead technologist experience in an accredited sleep laboratory is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead clinical workflows, mentor staff, maintain regulatory standards, and support operational excellence within a multidisciplinary sleep center.
  • Ability to work Full Time, 37.5 hours per week
