SUMMARY:

The Omnimax Theater & Featured Experiences Operator works as part of a team that runs shows in the Omnimax Theater and operates the Pulseworks simulators (Adventure Pod, Flight Simulators, and VR Transporter). Team members in this role coordinate guest flow in and out of both venues, providing immersive experiences with exceptional customer service and professional show presentation. Operators must be available to work weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and enjoyable experience for guests at the OMNIMAX Theater and Pulseworks Simulators.
  • Maintain a friendly and professional atmosphere, with an emphasis on high-quality guest experiences.
  • Proactively interact with guests about the venues and the Science Center.
  • Attempt to anticipate needs guests may have that may affect their experience (trouble walking, hearing or vision impairment, etc.), and assist them - look out for our most vulnerable guests: Families with small children, the elderly, and guests with cognitive, sensory, hearing, vision, and/or mobility issues.
  • Safely/properly operate the Adventure Pod, Flight Simulators, and VR Transporter
  • Train, inform, and ensure the safety of guests using the Pulseworks simulators.
  • Safely/properly operate the IMAX Dome with Laser projection and sound system and all accompanying media and ADA equipment.
  • Scan tickets and clean theater between shows.
  • Maintain integrity of the Theater environment (free of outside noise and light) and professionalism in presentation in order to not “break the spell” of the IMAX movie experience.
  • Make welcome, departure, and any necessary emergency announcements over a public address system.
  • Cashiering: Conduct ticket transactions for all venues and provide suggestions based on age, demographics, and interests. Conduct ticket sales for the Simulators based on safety guidelines and restrictions.
  • Monitor guest behavior, enforcing basic safety, security, and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:

COMPETENCIES:

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work with large groups, including large groups of children.
  • Ability to respond effectively and expediently to unforeseen circumstances, changes or emergencies, while dealing with large crowds.
  • Ability to perform cash and credit card transactions in an accurate and efficient manner.
  • Critical thinking skills required to understand operation and basic troubleshooting of multimedia systems.
  • Basic computer operation skills required – familiarity with a variety of user interfaces such as Windows, Mac, tablets, etc.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or GED desired but not required. Some college or technical school a plus.

Customer service experience, especially in similar venues or environments, is highly desirable.

Some technical experience in a similar venue, live theater venue, or general technical experience with A/V show presentation desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to lift 20+ pounds.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, or squat repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Ability to go up and down steps with reasonable proficiency during the course of a day in a Theater with stadium style seating.
  • Ability to lift and handle various cleaning equipment such as brooms and dust pans.
  • Ability to make clear announcements on a public address system.
  • Have standard (with correction) day/night vision and hearing

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Venue with 4 large moving simulators, and large format movie theater. Public museum setting with large crowds, children, and loud noise.
