Job Description
The Operational Safety Specialist will work with the drivers and operations staff on all safety issues, including 49 CFR Part 395 - Hours of Service of Drivers and 49 CFR Part 40 - Procedures for Transportation Workplace Drug and Alcohol Testing Programs. Oversee safety incident reports and participate in any necessary investigation. Provide claims support as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:- None.
- Perform daily review of adverse driving incidents captured and reported by Samsara Event Recorders.
- Document and coach corrective actions.
- Monitor and communicate upcoming Driver’s License and Medical Certificate expirations, follow to ensure timely renewals.
- Review Roadside Inspections, document and coach corrective actions as needed, sign as required and return, enter for Driver Bonus Pay.
- Review Citations, document and coach corrective actions as needed, enter for payment and driver deductions as required.
- Schedule and transmit Random Drug and Alcohol testing notifications as required.
- Schedule Hotels, Rental Cars and Ubers as required.
- Send and ensure completion of Rider Authorizations and Pet Authorizations as required.
- Participates in the training of Operations staff and Drivers as needed on 49 CFR Part 395 - Hours of Service for Drivers.
- Troubleshoots Samsara ELD device issues for drivers.
- Responsible for filing updated documents electronically to the Driver Qualification Files as required.
- Continually update job and industry knowledge by participating in assigned training.
- Participate in production of video, print and virtual trainings for drivers and operations staff.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Strong computer skills using Microsoft Office, the Internet, and web-based applications.
- The ability to multi-task and pay attention to detail is critical.
- Must have strong communication skills and the ability to develop relationships.
- BS Degree in Business or related field preferred or a combination of education and experience in transportation safety/claims.
- OSHA Certification and Experience preferred.
- DOT Rules and Regulations knowledge and experience preferred.
- Ability to travel throughout facility to conduct safety inspections.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
