Job Description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Technical Lead Engineer based in Brazil.
This is a high-responsibility, hands-on technical leadership role focused on building and owning the most critical layers of a real-time, financial-grade platform. You will be responsible for systems where correctness, determinism, and auditability are non-negotiable, including the core ledger, settlement engine, and infrastructure layer. The role goes beyond coding: you will define platform architecture, enforce integration discipline across teams, and ensure system-wide consistency under strict reliability constraints. You will work at the intersection of engineering and product execution, making key technical and scope decisions that directly impact system trust and operational safety. A strong focus is placed on building fail-safe, observable, and fully recoverable systems designed for real-time, event-driven workloads. You will also lead a small senior engineering team while maintaining deep hands-on involvement in architecture and implementation. This is a mission-critical role where engineering precision directly protects system integrity.
- Own and develop a financial-grade double-entry ledger system with strict correctness guarantees, ensuring every transaction is immutable, auditable, and fully reconcilable to the cent.
- Design and maintain deterministic system behavior through event sourcing, append-only logs, and snapshot-and-replay recovery mechanisms that guarantee system consistency.
- Define and enforce fail-safe system behavior across pricing, risk, and execution layers, ensuring unsafe states halt execution and trigger alerts rather than fail open.
- Own the settlement engine, including event-time sequencing, reconciliation logic, and controlled override or market-void processes when required.
- Architect and manage cloud infrastructure using Amazon Web Services, including Amazon EKS, Amazon RDS, and infrastructure-as-code with Terraform, ensuring high availability and multi-AZ resilience.
- Lead system-wide architecture decisions and enforce integration discipline across engineering streams to prevent divergence and maintain platform integrity.
- Manage and mentor a small senior engineering team across core platform, infrastructure, and engine domains, while actively contributing to hands-on development.
- Serve as a key technical decision-maker in stakeholder discussions, including scope definition, go/no-go decisions, and system risk evaluation.
- Ensure observability and reliability standards are met using SLO-driven monitoring and alerting systems for business-critical metrics.
- Extensive hands-on experience building financial, trading, exchange, or ledger-based systems where correctness, auditability, and determinism are core requirements.
- Deep expertise in double-entry accounting systems and immutable transaction-based architectures.
- Strong understanding and practical experience with event sourcing, CQRS, append-only logs, sequencing, and deterministic system design.
- Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL including serializable isolation, replication, and high-availability configurations.
- Production experience with cloud infrastructure such as Amazon Web Services, Kubernetes-based deployments, and multi-AZ failover systems.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js, with experience building full-stack or platform-level systems in a typed, distributed architecture.
- Proven leadership experience guiding small senior teams and making critical technical trade-offs under pressure.
- Strong experience with real-time or low-latency systems such as matching engines or order-book architectures.
- Experience integrating real-time, authoritative data feeds and building systems with strict consistency requirements.
- Strong observability mindset, with experience using tools such as Datadog, PagerDuty, or Sentry to monitor system and business-critical signals.
- Clear, structured communication style, especially in high-stakes technical and stakeholder discussions.
- Familiarity with regulated environments, including compliance considerations such as KYC/AML or SOC 2 frameworks.
- Fully remote work with flexible working arrangements
- Opportunity to work with a global, high-performing engineering team
- Flexible working hours with autonomy over schedule
- Competitive compensation package aligned with market standards
- High-impact role with ownership over mission-critical systems
- Opportunity to shape architecture and technical direction of a complex platform
