POSITION SUMMARY:
The Oncology Clinical Nurse (RN) provides specialized nursing care to patients receiving oncology-related treatments and procedures across multiple clinical service lines. This role supports patients throughout the continuum of care, from consultation through treatment, procedure, recovery, and follow-up by providing clinical assessment, symptom management, patient education, care coordination, and psychosocial support. The Oncology Clinical Nurse collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and multidisciplinary oncology teams to ensure safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. Performs job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of CCSF.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments for patients receiving oncology-related treatments and procedures, and evaluate patient status throughout the course of care.
- Monitor, assess, and manage treatment- or procedure-related side effects, symptoms, and complications, including pain, fatigue, skin changes, gastrointestinal/genitourinary symptoms, wound concerns, and other clinical issues as appropriate.
- Provide clinical triage and symptom management, including nursing interventions and timely escalation to providers when indicated.
- Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during patient evaluations, treatments, procedures, and follow-up visits as appropriate.
- Educate patients and families regarding planned treatments or procedures, expected side effects, symptom management, recovery expectations, and self-care.
- Provide ongoing patient support and serve as a primary clinical resource for patient questions and concerns throughout the continuum of care.
- Coordinate patient care with the multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nursing staff, ancillary departments, and other clinical services; facilitate appropriate referrals as needed.
- Communicate changes in patient condition or clinical concerns to providers in a timely manner.
- Document nursing assessments, interventions, care coordination activities, and patient education in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Promote patient safety by identifying, documenting, and reporting adverse events, complications, or patient care concerns in accordance with organizational policies.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience (radiation oncology experience preferred).
REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSE OR REGISTRATION:
- Current, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Florida.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; must be maintained.
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) certification or willingness to obtain within a two (2) years of hire.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS OR ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of procedure oncology workflows and treatment-related side effect management preferred.
- Demonstrates current knowledge and level of expertise required to deliver direct care to patients based on physical, psychosocial, educational, developmental/age-specific and spiritual needs.
- Knowledge of safety practices, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards at the state and federal levels.
- Proficient oncology EMRs.
- Demonstrated clinical efficiency and patient throughput.
- Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills.
